Everyone is quite weary by this point with the entire pandemic affair. Whether we wish to acknowledge it or not, the reality is: it exists. Just observe your surroundings and tally how many friends and relatives you still have. If all your loved ones are still alive, you’re fortunate.
However, some individuals weren’t that fortunate. Some canines didn’t have that luck either.
Recently, a woman from New York passed away due to COVID-19, leaving her four dogs to fend for themselves in the world. According to a post from Nassau County SPCA, the four dogs named Oliver, Winston, Isabelle, and Izzy were taken to the SPCA center by the owner’s father.
The dogs were meant to stay there until their owner was discharged from the hospital and recuperated. Sadly, that did not come to fruition.
When Jennifer Stien initially fell ill with COVID-19, her father, Barry, looked after the furry companions. However, it wasn’t long before Barry himself contracted the same virus and was unable to care for the beloved pets.
The sole solution to this troubling predicament was to bring the dogs to the SPCA.
As the SPCA noted, “Regular day-to-day care of the dogs became unfeasible for him, and although parting with his daughter’s dogs (her babies) was hard, he realized [taking the animals to the Nassau County SPCA] was the only option for him to recover and assist his daughter in her healing.”
Tragically, Barry passed away just days after he took the dogs to the shelter.
“All of us were very optimistic that the daughter would heal, and she would be reunited with her babies. Unfortunately, that reunion will never take place as Oliver, Winston, Isabelle, and Izzy lost their mother this past week. They have lost everything,” the SPCA conveyed in their post.
With no remaining family members willing to care for the dogs, all four must be made available for adoption.
As the representative mentioned, “Now we have these amazing, affectionate dogs – hopefully, we can find a home that will welcome all four of them. We are making every effort.”
Nassau SPCA President Gary Rogers remarked, “This is the first occurrence we’ve had where an entire family has perished, leaving these pets with nowhere to go.”
The SPCA is currently collecting donations to assist in covering the costs of caring for these four unfortunate babies. If by any chance you are interested in providing them a permanent home, please send an email to this address: [email protected].
Adopting them would undoubtedly transform their lives and instill a sense of significance that they still hold for someone.
