One dawn, a lady was awakened from her slumber by the sound of whimpering echoing from her garden. Intrigued, she ventured outside to explore, and to her immense astonishment, she spotted a small puppy resting near the trash bin.
This lovely furball was evidently a stray in search of a new family, and she couldn’t have discovered a more suitable home.
The poor little creature was so exhausted and famished that she readily permitted the woman’s spouse to easily lift her up and embrace her into their household.
Selecting The Ideal Family
Once welcomed into the cozy home, all the little puppy did was nap. “I could see she was exhausted. All she did was sleep. I think when she understood she was secure, she became extremely playful and incredibly affectionate,” Nat, the canine’s rescuer, recounted to The Dodo.
The entire family swiftly fell for this furry bundle of joy that luckily appeared in their lives.
Nevertheless, as the well-known adage goes, “Everything occurs for a reason,” it turned out that the puppy – who was later named Bear – was precisely what this family required.
At that precise moment, Bear required a cozy and caring home, while one member of the family was also longing for a furry friend to heal his broken heart.
“2019 was an extremely difficult year for my husband and my father-in-law. My mother-in-law passed away unexpectedly, which took a significant toll on the family,” Nat shared.
Then, amidst dealing with the sudden passing of the mother-in-law, the family also had to say goodbye to their cherished dog, Champ.
Their hearts were crushed once again.
Just when they were on the verge of searching for another canine, Bear appeared like the most perfect present.
“I suggested to my husband, ‘Let’s surprise your dad when he returns home from work’,” Nat stated, and that’s precisely what they did.
The Small Joys In Life
To say that Nat’s father-in-law was astonished would be an understatement.
“They placed this little pup in my hands and I thought, ‘Alright, this is wonderful!’ I believe she was sent here for a purpose, and that purpose being me,” Terry, Bear’s now dad, expressed to The Dodo.
Coping with the loss of his cherished wife of many years and their dog in such a short timeframe was extremely challenging for Terry.
He remained in a dark space for a prolonged period.
“Bear was a catalyst in helping me through it all,” Terry added.
Their connection was remarkably strong from the outset. Bear intuitively knows when Terry is feeling down after a tough day, and she is always there to uplift him.
Initially, they thought Bear might be a Newfoundland, but a DNA analysis showed that she was actually part St. Bernard. This implied that Bear was destined to grow into a rather large dog, but the family didn’t mind whatsoever.
Bear is a gentle giant who adores her new dad and is truly the happiest dog ever.
“I honestly don’t know what I would do without her,” Terry concluded.
