Lee Asher’s lifelong aspiration was to establish a refuge where all discarded and unwanted creatures could experience safety, affection, and liberation.

This aspiration eventually materialized when he managed to acquire The Asher House, featuring a considerable estate in Estacada, Oregon, where currently, all his rescued animals reside.

The spirit and essence of this abode has consistently been Lillie, a Saint Bernard dog that Lee saved and revived.

Sadly, after eight years with Lee, Lillie eventually passed away, but prior to her departure, she bequeathed a gift to the individual who cherished her the most. Explore this remarkable tale.

Lillie was discovered resting in a puddle on the street behind a dumpster during a heavy downpour. Animal control picked her up, uncertain if she was even alive.

They were unaware of the precise condition plaguing her, but she was gravely ill.

During her stay at the South LA Animal Shelter, Lee Asher visited her daily, and day after day, he noticed she was diminishing in spirit.

For three long weeks, he was forbidden from adopting her or even taking her outside, and poor Lillie was gradually losing all hope.

At that time, The Asher House was non-existent, yet Lee continually assured Lillie that he would rescue her as soon as it was feasible.

Finally, after three weeks, Lee managed to adopt her.

Upon bringing her home, he finally comprehended why Lillie was deteriorating – she was suffering from seizures throughout the night.

Her recovery journey was lengthy, both mentally and financially, but fortunate enough, after six months, she began to feel much better.

For eight lengthy years, Lillie was Lee’s closest friend and his one genuine companion through everything. She was undeniably the heart and soul of The Asher House… a dog present from the very start, but regrettably, in January 2024, Lillie passed away.

While still grappling with the grief of losing his closest companion, Lee received news about a puppy that required immediate rescue – the notification arrived on the exact day that Lillie passed away.

Upon reading the message, Lee was in disbelief…

It was a little Saint Bernard puppy… resembling Lillie.

“Right around the same time that Lillie passed away, I discovered this dog through an email that we received. I can hardly believe this is happening. I can’t believe I’m about to go pick up this dog,” Lee Asher mentioned in his rescue video

The timing was extraordinary. Just as he was mourning his cherished furry friend, he got a call about another St. Bernard puppy needing assistance.

Lee felt as though it was Lillie who had sent him this puppy.

Upon meeting the puppy – later named Ranger – it was nearly love at first glance.

“Lillie was my guiding light, and it became so dim when she departed. Yet, she left me a glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel, and that light turned out to be Ranger,” Lee stated.

Ranger is now an officially new addition to the extensive Asher family, and he is bound to enjoy an extraordinary life.
