Winston’s introduction to his new owner occurred on an entirely mundane day when a friend and her dog came over for a visit.
The canine, being rather playful, enjoyed frolicking in the yard and investigating. Since it was located adjacent to a small wooded area in California, the dog stumbled upon something during his exploration.
It was some type of creature. Sensing it required assistance, he retrieved it and brought it back to his owner.
As it turned out, the dog had indeed rescued Winston, a squirrel. His new owner realized he was rather young and was unsure of how to proceed.
She ensured he was at ease in her home and periodically checked on him to confirm he was still alive.
One thing she observed was that Winston had a wounded leg and a swollen face.
The local rehabilitation center in California was not taking in any new animals, so his new owner had to be resourceful.
She turned to the internet for guidance. There was a significant chance he had been separated from his mother, as she was searching for a new location for them and the dog merely happened to be there.

Winston’s owner also realized he developed a keen interest in rabbits, prompting her to adopt a rabbit named Artemis.
