Picture awakening one morning in your bed and spotting an unfamiliar dog resting beside you. Odd, isn’t it?
Well, that’s precisely what occurred with Julie Thornton Johnson and her partner, Jimmy, the day following a significant storm in their southeastern Tennessee residence.
Here’s how the scene unfolded!
Nala Slips In Like A Pro
Julie and Jimmy reside in a spacious Tennessee house with three of their pups. It’s not unusual for some (or all) of them to sneak into their room at night and cuddle in their bed for an additional snuggle.
However, one evening, rather than their own dogs, an unknown pup slinked into their bed.
“As morning light started to filter through our curtains, we noticed we were cuddling with someone else’s dog,” states Julie.
As peculiar as it was, they didn’t panic! Quite the opposite – worry was likely the furthest thought from their minds! Instead, they erupted with laughter and speculated on how in the world that dog managed to sneak in.
The most puzzling aspect was that none of their dogs actually alerted them about an intruder in their home, as they typically bark at anything that catches their attention. It appears that even the dogs took an instant liking to Nala, which is likely why they didn’t raise a fuss when she entered.
Julie’s Amusing Post Went Viral
Julie shared this adorable “incident” on Facebook, and before they knew it – the post became a sensation! The tale even reached the Washington Post and various other publications, which completely astounded her!
“This is the most bizarre post I’ve ever had to create,” penned Julie.
“At this stage, I’m just utterly surprised. I regard the Post as one of the largest news outlets. Not only did they cover the story, but we are one of the top stories of the day.”
Nala’s Owner Was Quickly Discovered
Thanks to the post, Julie discovered Nala’s owner quite rapidly. It was Cris Hawkins, a woman who lived just a few houses away from them.
Cris initially shared numerous pictures of herself and Nala together to authenticate her ownership, then drove to the location to reclaim her dog. Upon her arrival at Julie and Jimmy’s home, Nala was still nestled in bed with Jimmy.
Cris explained that Nala must have slipped out of her collar overnight and wandered down the street. She was overjoyed to see Cris, yet also appeared quite cozy in her “unintentional home.”
A Surprising Friendship Was Formed
From that moment on, Nala and her owner became great friends with Julie and Jimmy. Plus, their dogs seemed to enjoy each other’s company as well!
Julie, Jimmy, Cris, Nala, and the remaining dogs now form the perfect group, spending ample quality time together! Although Cris and her partner have relocated to a home that isn’t as close anymore, they still make it a point to connect!
“Nala and her mom are almost settled into their new house, which is quite far from ours now. I’m delighted that Nala’s mom and the Johnsons continue to stay in contact! Nala is flourishing in her new environment,” Julie shared.
It seems Nala’s brief escapade turned out to be quite pleasant after all, don’t you think?
