Are you aware of how many dogs find themselves in shelters each year?
Several million, that’s a certainty.
The figure fluctuates and varies from year to year. The latest report indicated that over 6 million dogs were surrendered to shelters across the USA.
That equates to 6 million shattered hearts!
Can you even fathom the agony these 6 million dogs must endure?
If not for animal shelters and rescue groups, only God knows what might happen to those unfortunate pups in distress.
Regrettably, the circumstance is quite alarming. Shelters, though they possess every good intention imaginable, cannot operate without resources. They require financial support, and the nation simply does not allocate sufficient funds.
A many of them are short on essential items such as dog food or medical supplies.
The vast majority depend on contributions from benevolent individuals.
Compassionate animal enthusiasts and donors form the foundation of every shelter.
No contributions mean no lives rescued; that’s the straightforward arithmetic behind it all.
One of the numerous shelters in Georgia consistently welcomes donations and even has a box placed outside for those wishing to assist with food and supplies.
One morning, workers discovered something that couldn’t be classified as a basic necessity, but it certainly was an incredible donation.
Let’s explore what kind of unexpected visitors arrived at this shelter!
What’s In The Box?
Every weekday at Moultrie Colquitt County Humane Society (MCCHS) begins quite early.
Before 6 AM, the first staff members arrived at the shelter for their shift.
As usual, before commencing their routine duties, the initial step they take is to inspect the donation box positioned right outside the shelter. It’s not always overflowing, but day after day, a bag or two of kibble finds its way inside, ensuring the pups receive some assistance.
However, this particular morning differed.
Of course, there were two bags of kibble awaiting them within the box.
But, that was not all!
Mysterious visitors had been waiting patiently for someone to come and uncover the contents of the box.
When the shelter staff opened it, they discovered two puppies curled up in the back of the box!
Saved Just In Time
It’s summer in Georgia, and temperatures are soaring.
Can you picture how scorching it must be inside a wooden container lacking proper air ventilation?
Those pups were trapped in a sauna… perspiring, panting, and gasping for oxygen.
When the staff located them, the warmth radiating from the box struck them like a wave. They were rescued just in the nick of time. Had the shelter personnel not opened the box that morning…
We all understand how this situation may have transpired.
The MCCHS team reviewed their surveillance footage and discovered that someone had left the two puppies sometime after 10:30 PM. No one was present at the shelter during that time. The tiny ones had endured the entire night in the box, hoping that someone would locate them.
Fortunately, after a thorough inspection, it was confirmed that the puppies were in excellent health. They exhibited no obvious infections. Their fur was fine. They appeared just like ordinary puppies!
Polly and Dolly, as they were named, were a touch timid initially, but soon their true character emerged. They were simply overjoyed to be alive in such a place!
“They are very playful pups and adore attention from people and enjoy playtime,” remarked one of the shelter staff members.
Polly and Dolly are now approximately three months old.
They’re prepared to meet their forever families. The MCCHS has recently posted them for adoption, and they’re already receiving numerous inquiries about the delightful duo from the box.
There’s no doubt that these fortunate girls will be adopted in no time.
The compassionate staff members at MCCHS still monitor their donation box consistently. One never knows when another pup might drop by as an unexpected guest during the night.
