Having a dog entails a significant amount of responsibility, but unfortunately, not all ‘guardians’ comprehend or desire to recognize that.

In Houston, Texas, an individual kept his unfortunate dog tethered outside under deplorable circumstances for six long years.

She was ill, underfed, and required veterinary assistance, which the possessor was unwilling to provide.

Fortunately, the committed rescuers, street feeders, and animal control personnel were able to eventually persuade the owner to relinquish the dog so she could finally get the necessary care.

A More Promising Future Ahead

Upon receiving a notification about a dog who was left outside in horrific circumstances by her owner, the rescuers acted swiftly to save her.

They rushed over, intent on convincing the owner to release the dog into their custody. However, when they finally laid eyes on the dog, their hearts sank.

“He guided us to an open garage in the backyard, where she was concealed. She resembled a skeleton, cowering in the corner. It was evident that she was suffering from mange and had needed assistance long ago,” the rescuer recounted to The Dodo.

When asked about the last time the dog had seen a veterinarian, the owner indicated that it had been over three years.

Thankfully, their convincing efforts were fruitful, and they managed to persuade the owner to relinquish the distressed dog to a rescue organization that would provide her with the utmost care.

They quickly placed the dog in a crate and transported her towards a more hopeful and bright future. She truly deserved so much more.

Meanwhile, Caitie Evers, from Caitie’s Foster Fam, a charitable rescue organization, was eagerly awaiting to receive her new foster dog – who was later named Marilyn – and take her to a nurturing new home.

“She had no flesh on her bones, no coat. Dogs express so much feeling with their ears, and when we first got her, her ears – they drooped down and looked forlorn,” Caitie conveyed.

Marilyn had entirely lost her coat, endured two varieties of mange and fleas, suffered from skin ailments, was underweight, and had numerous litters throughout the years.

Fortunately, all of her issues were easily treatable unlike her previous owner’s assertion that he had to spend thousands on trying to resolve her health problems.

An Amazing Transformation

Once Marilyn adjusted to her foster environment, her treatment commenced immediately.

Caitie provided an update on Facebook, stating, “Marilyn is receiving a bath weekly as prescribed by the veterinarian. She isn’t a fan. However, she is incredibly sweet and patient with me. She’s on antifungal and anti-yeast medication, steroids, flea/tick preventive, antibiotics, and medicated baths.”

Just a week later, a significant improvement in her condition was noticeable.

Marilyn’s schedule consisted of eating, resting, bathing, and then repeating the process.

“A month and a half later, she began to feel well again. Now, her ears were perked up, joyful, and attentive,” Caitie shared.

In no time, Marilyn became utterly unrecognizable. She now possesses beautiful new fur, a radiant smile, and is entirely healthy – a sharp contrast to her former existence in her old home.

The only remaining task is to discover her a loving forever home.

A New Permanent Home

Despite her troublesome past, Marilyn’s greatest joy in life is human companionship, and luckily, she discovered an ideal family in Wisconsin filled with love to share with her.

“After many months of little interest in Houston and significant training (and progress) on her reactions to other dogs, we concluded that transporting Marilyn to Wisconsin for adoption was the best choice,” Caitie mentioned in a post.

Marilyn – now referred to as Nala – is the happiest pup in her permanent residence on the shores of Lake Michigan, being adored with endless affection.

She has a wonderful feline companion named Jasmine and is enjoying the pampered life she has always deserved.

Keep up with Nala on her Instagram – @nala.marilyn.
