Upon arriving at a sand pit in Crosby, Texas, to collect some materials, the truck operators were disheartened to discover a charming dog that had been deserted.
The canine stared off into the horizon as if awaiting someone’s arrival. The drivers presumed she longed to reunite with her owners. Unbeknownst to her, they had abandoned her and left her behind.
In Search Of A Foster Home
The drivers reached out to Megan, whose family operates the sand pit, and requested her assistance for the little dog. Unfortunately, many individuals abandon innocent creatures at the sand pit, which is how Megan became involved in rescuing dogs.
Megan provided her food daily, while the drivers ensured that the lovely dog, later christened Dutchie, was nourished.
“We always provide our dump truck drivers and operators with bags of dog food to feed the dogs at the site, and I constantly request them to take photos and videos,” Megan remarked.
When she received the recordings, Megan shared it on her Facebook page and began searching for a foster who could take in the dog.
She consistently checked on the puppy, and the truck drivers provided her updates every day. The thoughtful drivers engaged with Dutchie and endeavored to earn her trust.
The little dog often concealed herself and rested on a stack of tires at the sand pit.
Megan Is Excited To Share Good News With Dutchie
Lola’s Lucky Day, the organization dedicated to rescuing stray dogs in Houston and Dallas, discovered a foster for Dutchie.
Once Megan learned of this, she felt both ecstatic and relieved. She quickly left her job and hurried to save the dog.
“It was a huge relief. It felt like a celebration. I was so delighted. Whenever I know that a resolution is at hand, I don’t want to leave them behind for a single second longer,“ Megan expressed.
Upon arriving at the sand pit, Megan started searching for Dutchie. The black tires provided perfect cover for the black puppy.
Megan’s heart melted when the cutest little head emerged from the tires. Dutchie sensed her arrival and poked her head out to identify who it was.
She was pleased to see the friendly face of her rescuer.
“Then she emerged from the tires, visibly excited to see me. She was searching for food but was also enthusiastic and amiable. She approached me directly,” Megan recounted.
She managed to secure a leash around Dutchie’s neck. The puppy was so charming. While Megan was stroking her, Dutchie gazed at her with the most adorable eyes brimming with hope. She rolled onto her back, requesting her rescuer for a belly rub.
Megan was completely taken with her. Dutchie spent the night at her place, relishing the warmth of a genuine home.
“When I set her free in the yard to roam, it was grass and I could tell she felt a difference. She recognized that it was more homelike compared to where she had been, where survival was her only option. Here, she could really be herself,” Megan shared.
Relishing Her Time At The Foster Residence
The following day, Megan transported her to her foster caregivers, Kaitlin and Lauren.
During her initial days in the foster home, Dutchie was somewhat cautious and uncertain of her surroundings, though she yearned for affection and companionship.
She was taken to the veterinarian, who diagnosed her with heartworm. The dog had a sprained ankle and her hips were in poor condition. After receiving the required treatment, she began to regain her strength.
Dutchie’s foster family engaged with her patiently while showering her with tenderness. Over time spent at her foster home, the lovable dog learned how to unwind and lower her defenses.
Dutchie began to relish cuddling with her foster family. She overcame her fears and blossomed into a joyful and confident dog with a radiant smile.
She eagerly anticipated commencing a new chapter of her life, leaving her past behind.
