The sole individual experiencing a more delightful day than the one welcoming a dog into their home is the puppy getting adopted.
Learning that a human cherishes you enough to include you in their life forever is every pup’s aspiration.
Thus, when an older dog named Taro discovered he was at last departing the shelter for his new everlasting home, he was resolute to be the most wonderful fur child in the entire universe.
A Fresh Start
Marusha and her family ensured that there was always a furry companion scurrying around their affectionate household. Nevertheless, after their last dog passed away, Marusha’s mother was so devastated that she simply didn’t possess the courage to adopt again.
“We had three family dogs previously, but following the heartbreaking loss of our last pet, my mom chose to stop having dogs as she couldn’t withstand the sorrow when they departed. I felt quite incomplete without one and resolved to get my first dog in January,” Marusha informed Newsweek.
Choosing to offer a home to a dog that had a smaller chance of finding one, Marusha was introduced to an 11-year-old dog through a group dedicated to rescuing dogs from euthanasia.
She named him Taro, which translates to ‘older sibling/first child’ in Japanese, and both she and her new pup were prepared to embark on their journey together.
Taking It Slow.
Regrettably, Taro’s former owner was profoundly cruel, causing him to be unsure of how to interact with his new human.
“When it was finally time to take Taro home, he was extremely frightened. However, I allowed him some time to smell me before filling out the adoption documents, and we took him home,” she expressed.
Even though it took him a while to adapt to his new, caring environment, he was committed to becoming the best pup possible!
On his inaugural night with his mom, he stayed beside her the whole night and was frequently around her unless she went upstairs…
He wasn’t quite at ease with climbing the stairs.
He also encountered some difficulties with car rides, but after a short outing with his mom, he completely fell in love!
Nevertheless, he must be near mom for the entire journey.
“I could see a sense of relief in him; he became exceedingly affectionate and chose me as his owner. Since then, he has become very attached to me, even accompanying me to the bathroom when I shower,” she clarified.
Regrettably, Taro’s history continues to haunt him. Having been confined in a cage without the ability to walk throughout the day, he developed certain joint issues. However, since Marusha’s aunt is a veterinarian, he is receiving all the essential care that will help him feel wonderful once again.
Thanks to his new family, Taro is genuinely enjoying the life he has always deserved. And, he couldn’t be more thankful for it!
“He enjoys walking, snuggling, and playing. He is still fearful of men but shows immense loyalty and love towards me and my family. My mom frequently remarks that he appears to be smiling,” Marusha concluded.
