Winnie, a Great Dane hailing from Kansas, was unaware of her ability to care for other animals until destiny introduced her to two abandoned kittens.
Her prior existence mainly revolved around her human, Lisa, and the rest of her household, but that was the extent of it. Winnie had little fondness for other dogs and was clueless about forming healthy connections with other furry companions.
At that stage, she was an exceptionally reactive dog until, quite suddenly, her entire world transformed!
Winnie Astonished Everyone
Winnie is certainly not an ordinary dog. She’s quirky, people-oriented, and an everlasting source of amusement for her family. Despite this, this Great Dane has consistently struggled to connect with other furry pals.
Although her owners have gone above and beyond to assist her in overcoming this challenge, Winnie’s lack of interaction with other animals is largely attributed to her inadequate breeding.
Nevertheless, she is undeniably making strides!
“She enjoys playing with other dogs. Not a single mean bone in her body. But within our home, in her territory, with her food, her treats, her couch, her bed, her human, her toys, she transforms into a totally different dog,” Lisa shares in an Instagram post.
Thanks to her mother’s persistent efforts and ongoing behavioral training, Winnie had minimal outbursts over the past year.
However, there exists one pair of cuddly furballs with whom Winnie has an innate bond… a maternal one, even! They are her two freshly fostered orphaned kittens!
When Lisa and her family welcomed these two little feline buddies into their residence, they were uncertain about how Winnie would respond. They wished for her to at least be neutral, but this resilient girl soon astonished them!
Not only did she embrace these two orphans – she effectively became their mother!
Witnessing Winnie’s incredible bond with the kittens, this Kansas City family found themselves utterly astonished!
“I’m genuinely amazed by Winnie’s affection for these kittens,” Lisa commented on Instagram.
There was something instinctual within Winnie that transformed her into a nurturing and affectionate figure around her little siblings. She continually watched over them, sniffed them, and showered them with the warmest kisses and cuddles.
The kittens would eventually huddle next to her in her crate and doze off together. It was a truly heartwarming scene to behold! Once a highly reactive dog triggered by nearly everything, Winnie had now evolved into a completely serene canine who found her cozy place – alongside the kitties!
She Discovered Her Calling As A Foster Momma
Winnie’s unexpected affection for the kittens is something her family wishes to preserve.
Regrettably, due to the number of pets in their household, Lisa and her spouse are unable to retain the kittens. The family has already located a fitting forever home for one, while the other will soon have her chance as well.
“Winnie bid farewell to one of her little ones this evening. He is set to thrive with his new family,” wrote Lisa.
Nonetheless, to allow Winnie to keep showcasing her gentle nature, her owners plan to continue fostering kittens in need.
Winnie has demonstrated her remarkable fostering abilities, and denying her the chance to be a momma to other furry friends would be a missed opportunity.
For the time being, Winnie is content to have enjoyed meaningful moments with her two kittens, yet she’s undoubtedly eager for numerous more exhilarating fostering experiences in the future!
Her latent talent has come to light, and she’s ready to embrace it as much as she can!
