A notable tale originates from Texas, where a small pup named Stuart battled back to health.
He was discovered as a tiny 1.8-pound boy by a pair of compassionate individuals. Although they immediately sprang into action to rescue him, Stuart was perilously close to the brink, as he was in dire shape and his blood tests appeared critically low.
Due to his skeletal physique, his caretakers were unaware that he was actually a proud Pittie at the time, but then – Stuart’s body began to experience an astonishing transformation!
This is his tale!
Initially Misidentified As A Chihuahua Due To His Emaciated Build
Upon his initial arrival at Dallas Dog RRR in Texas, he was in significant danger of not surviving until the next day. Stuart was so extremely unwell that he could not keep his eyes open or support himself on his paws.
“He could hardly keep his eyes open and was seemingly at death’s door,” Kerry Anechiarico relayed to The Dodo.
This adorable boy had exceedingly low blood results, and he was infested with ticks. Adding to all this, Stuart was incredibly malnourished. He weighed less than what was typical for his age, leaving his immune system highly vulnerable.
“He really should have weighed between 4 to 5 pounds at the very least. We just assumed he was a Chihuahua because of his emaciated figure… The first 24 to 48 hours were critical. He was quite out of it and was not fully aware, fluctuating in and out,” Kerry explained.
Stuart spent the initial days in the medical facility. He required a blood transfusion and around-the-clock attention to pull through, yet ultimately, he survived!
It was evident to everyone at the rescue that this spirited Pittie was a true survivor, committed to seizing his second opportunity at life!
A Caring Foster Home Was All He Required To Flourish
Upon his release from the hospital, Stuart was welcomed into a foster home. Susan, his new foster parent, was thrilled to have this Pittie pup in her care, eager to do everything she could to assist him in becoming a healthy young boy.
He required some time to acclimate to his new surroundings and regain his strength, but one certainty was that Stuart adored his new environment!
“When I first took him in, he was often sleeping. It was apparent he was striving to recover from all the distress. It wasn’t until about four or five days later that he began to behave like a puppy,” Susan explained.
He absolutely relished the companionship of Susan’s other dogs, and before long – he developed into a delightful goofball!
Shane And Stuart Were Destined To Be Together
One day, Susan’s sibling, Shane, visited, and Stuart instantly became smitten with him. He subsequently drifted off to sleep on Shane’s chest, and at that moment, he realized – he had to be adopted!
“It was simply a bond. I understood at that moment that I would take him home… He’s involved in everything we do…he’s always with me in the car when we go out,” Shane expressed.
Stuart (now named Shiner) is thrilled with his new existence alongside Shane and his family! They reside in Austin, a pet-friendly city, and Stuart thoroughly enjoys it!
The pair regularly enjoy walks, and each time they visit a pet store, everyone recognizes Stuart and greets him with immense excitement! He has practically become a local star in his new neighborhood, and he thrives on the attention!
Today, Stuart has plenty of friends and a girlfriend named Blakely, and he couldn’t be more content. After everything he has endured, it’s truly gratifying to witness this rescue boy relishing his life as it was always intended!
