James Allen, a local of Tennessee, generally takes the same scenic route in Dickson County to reach his workplace.
This path is as familiar to him as his own reflection, as he travels it nearly every single day. However, one day, an unusual sight caught his attention, prompting him to hit the brakes abruptly.
Beside the road stood a frail, needy dog who appeared to be fiercely guarding a cardboard container marked “eggs”.
James instinctively sensed there was something else concealed within that box…
A Box Of Surprises
The dog’s sorrowful expression revealed everything James needed to understand. She had clearly been abandoned by someone she regarded as family.
Upon examining the large cardboard box, he was astonished to discover it contained five adorable little puppies.
“I travel that route nearly every day and the box was absent yesterday; the lid was shut as illustrated in the image, so the pups couldn’t escape. Additionally, it was so fresh that there was no waste at the bottom of the box,” James informed Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue.
Everything began to click. The older, lean dog was their mother, simultaneously safeguarding her young ones and waiting for her family to come back.
“Mom was gazing up the road, almost as if she were trying to see if her family was returning,” a representative from Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue shared with The Dodo.
Concerned about the fate of both the mother and the puppies, James quickly uploaded photos of the pups online, hoping someone might offer aid.
Fortunately, the kind individuals from Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue in Nashville, TN, came across the message and contacted James, promising him that they would care for the dog and her puppies.
A Safe Haven
By the end of that day, the mother and her five pups were already safe and sound at the shelter.
“These pups and their mom are now secure with us, but to consider that we live amidst such cruelty and ignorance is unsettling,” the shelter noted in their Facebook update.
They provided the little furry family with a cozy bed and plenty of nourishment, and will strive to find them loving homes.
Regrettably, situations like this happen far too often in Dickson County, and while the rescuers weren’t surprised, they were still deeply saddened.
“Sadly, events like this occur all too frequently in this region. No matter how often these occurrences happen, it angers me and breaks my heart,” the representative told The Dodo.
While the puppies are now secure, the rescue will actively pursue the individual who callously abandoned them and will hopefully seek charges.
“Someone in Dickson County “KNOWS” who the owner is. Contact us!,” urged the rescue to their audience.
Thanks to James Allen and his prompt action, the resilient family is now secure at the rescue, and it is hoped they will never again have to be concerned about their future.
