Where could he be?

He can’t have strayed too far alone?

Oh, this puppy is far too frail to engage in such antics!

Where might this little Beagle have gone?

After scouring her entire residence, even enlisting the help of the other dogs, foster mom, Lindsay, ultimately found River, the lost Beagle.

Even she was astonished by River’s hiding spot!

He had been right in front of her the whole time.

Let’s discover River’s unique hiding location and see if you can find this expert in disguise!

Lindsay Lenz is a courageous woman residing in Higbee, Missouri, who operates a charming farm known as Just One More. In her sanctuary, Lindsay welcomes diverse animals – those that are injured, abandoned, or without families, including canines. There are more than 200 creatures she attends to each day.

Upon learning about a significant rescue mission conducted by the Moberly Animal Shelter from Moberly, Missouri, she felt compelled to assist. So many Beagles were saved from a dog hoarder, but only one was in need of care.

All the rescued pups were fine, with the exception of River.

The little puppy required additional TLC, and Lindsay was there to provide all her affection.

“At first, he was extremely unwell,” Lenz recalled. “He had little to no strength, and spent most of the time asleep. I created a special kennel for him with a heating pad and various food choices. For the initial two days, I had to tube-feed him formula and medication … It was a precarious situation. On the morning of the third day, I was awakened at 7 a.m. by the loudest, smallest howls! River had woken up and wanted to come out!”

Weighing just 2 pounds at the age of 7 weeks, River was too frail for his own good. However, his spirit was anything but weak.

In merely a couple of days, River regained his footing. He developed energy, acquired the necessary strength, and had an immense desire to frolic. His metamorphosis was astonishing, leaving Lindsay in awe!

The only concern she had now was whether River had gone missing on the farm due to his small size.

Unfortunately, the worst occurred.

River had vanished!

Initially, she wasn’t overly anxious because she had already witnessed puppies wandering off, napping in the oddest locations around the house.

Still, when she couldn’t find River about 15 minutes after realizing he was missing, Lindsay began to panic.

She scoured the home from top to bottom, but the tiny pup was nowhere to be seen.

In a moment of desperation, Lindsay retrieved her camera, hoping to capture River on video, thus making it easier to locate him.

And then, it dawned on her!

“Cuddled up asleep on top of the container of dog toys,” Lenz noted. “He was perfectly camouflaged among all the stuffed animals … At first, I was taken aback, then I chuckled for a full five minutes! I had LITERALLY walked right past him at least a dozen times while searching. He was truly hidden in plain sight!”

Poobie, one of Lindsay’s dogs, had been next to him all along, yet he didn’t betray his friend’s napping spot.

River displayed no regrets about hiding in such an evident, yet sneaky place. He shot Lindsay a side glance as if to say: Gee, thanks for waking me up!

River arrived at Lindsay’s in July of 2022. In spite of his challenging condition, River was a courageous soul.

He took pleasure in residing on the farm with Lindsay, but the basket of plush toys soon became his favorite place on the entire property.

From the moment that viral video was recorded, River began his daily naps in his basket. It was his safe space… his own little haven.

Sadly, although both River and Lindsay fought valiantly for the little one’s recovery, River’s frail body could not endure. His short life on the farm came to an end about a month after his arrival.

Due to complications from anemia related to his coccidiosis, River crossed the river, over the rainbow bridge and onto much greener fields.

His delicate little body was liberated from all discomfort.

River finally received the well-deserved rest.

His brief, yet touching tale will remain with Lindsay and all of us for eternity.
