For pet guardians, reuniting with their lost dog is an unparalleled moment and a sensation that can’t be articulated in words.
Nova, the family’s canine companion, underwent a remarkable event after being missing for two lengthy months in the hills of Meyer Ranch Park, Colorado. Two kind-hearted hikers discovered the pooch, but the rescue endeavor itself was far from easy.
Although delighted to be found, Nova’s instinct for survival complicated the rescue operation somewhat.
This is her narrative!
The Noble Gesture
When two hikers came upon Nova, she appeared thoroughly drained. The dog had a hurt leg, and she was already in survival instinct mode. Concealed in bushes, Nova was profoundly frightened and did not allow her rescuers to approach her.
Nevertheless, the hikers were aware that the dog was in dire need of assistance and they were unwilling to abandon her. They cautiously moved closer to Nova in an attempt to win her trust. Their primary objective was to carry the injured dog down the mountain to procure help, but her fear-induced reactions complicated matters.
She reacted defensively and bit one of the hikers, making the rescue endeavor significantly more challenging.
Following an unsuccessful effort to assist the dog independently, they reached out to The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, who promptly reacted. A team of animal control officials was dispatched to the location along with Jefferson County rangers.
One hiker remained with Nova while the other descended the mountain to guide the rescuers to the precise spot.
“They understood the pup needed assistance and they contacted us. One hiker stayed back with the dog while the other went down for medical aid and to direct rescuers,” stated the JCSO.
Rescued Just in Time
With joint efforts and a considerable amount of dedication, the group was able to secure Nova. They somehow coaxed her out from the bushes and muzzled her to safeguard against potential biting.
The team successfully transported the dog down to the facility wrapped in a blanket, where she ultimately received the essential care. Despite being extremely fearful and exhibiting aggression, she calmed down once she recognized her safety.
After the challenging part of the operation was completed, the rescuers faced another vital assignment – tracking down Nova’s owner. Fortunately, this aspect of the rescue proved much simpler!
Thanks to the rangers who took part in Nova’s rescue operation, her owner was swiftly identified. One of the rangers recalled a lost dog poster that had been displayed in the park a few months prior, which aided in the prompt reunion of Nova with her owner.
When the two finally came together, Nova’s owner was immensely relieved to see his dog safe and sound. She informed the rescuers that her beloved girl had gone missing two months ago and during that time, she had unfortunately injured her leg.
Nova is now resting in her forever home, awaiting surgery. Her family couldn’t be more thankful for having their girl back. Her return just in time for the holidays was a genuine Thanksgiving miracle!
