Each of us has, at some point, encountered a scenario where we received something that we didn’t request.
This particular incident occurred in today’s narrative – but this time it involved a move.
While Kay Banks, the founder of Tabby Tails Cat Rescue, was taking a shower one evening, they received an alert indicating that their front camera had detected movement.
Rushing out and quickly drying off, Kay dashed to the front door, unlocked it, and was confronted with a stack of parcels, with something quite intriguing resting on top.
Mystery Delivery
As they examined the small black bag atop the packages, Kay spotted a pair of luminous eyes gazing back at them.
It was an orange feline!
The cat had been heartlessly left at Kay’s doorstep, zipped inside its carrier, and exposed to the rain.
“He was incredibly frightened. He was meowing the entire time on our camera. Physically he’s in acceptable condition. It was clear he was a pet,” Kay informed The Dodo.
After bringing the carrier inside, Kay unfastened it, attempting to coax the cat out and reassure him that he was in a secure environment. Nonetheless, the cat didn’t seem to grasp the reassurance.
As he had been forsaken by his previous owners, the cat required some time to process and comprehend the situation, and Kay was more than willing to provide him with that time.
Take It Easy
Kay placed the cat inside a kennel, aiming to gradually build his trust. Regrettably, this turned out to be more challenging than anticipated.
The cat simply refused to cooperate.
Whenever Kay attempted to open the kennel to clean it or provide food, the feline, later identified as Jackson, would respond with hisses and swipes.

Nonetheless, Kay resolved not to surrender.
In the days that followed, they devoted time with Jackson, gradually acclimatizing him to their scent and the understanding that they were now his caregivers.
As they updated Jackson’s journey on their TikTok, many speculated that his hostility stemmed from potential pain.
“Jackson is displaying extreme behavior, but this isn’t exceptionally rare. The reality is that being surrendered is one of the most frightening and daunting experiences for pets. It is not unusual for pets to become so frightened, stressed, and depressed that they behave in such a manner,” Kay remarked in a video.
Kay also took this moment to raise awareness that it is unacceptable to simply abandon animals at the doorstep of an animal rescue.
“Please refrain from leaving cats here without our consent. Exploiting the kindness of rescues and shelters jeopardizes these animals. I don’t close our intake for pleasure. I close it because we lack the necessary resources to care for another animal. We can’t support their medical needs or provide nourishment, and we don’t have the capacity for another cat. Overstepping these limits can hinder this place from being the rescue we all cherish. If we had unlimited resources, you can bet that I would strive to save every single one. Sadly, that is not the reality,” they expressed in a Facebook post.
Recognizing the origins of his distress, Kay exhibits incredible patience and determination to help this lovely boy feel at ease and content.
I am confident that over time, Jackson will begin to realize there is nothing to fear and that he is finally in the embrace of someone who cherishes and adores him.
