There’s no finer present for a dog rescuer than witnessing a stray dog evolve.
Existing in what could be described as the most dreadful conditions, countless dogs endure hardships until they eventually receive the opportunity for a decent existence. And, as they begin to emerge from their shells, all you can do is observe their growth.
One remarkable tale originates from Saipan, Mariana Islands, where a dog named Smoosh was on the brink of her very first encounter with a human. Or, at least, with a human who would welcome her!
Smoosh’s Background
Aria and Grace Keilbach, from Boonie Babies, have been dedicated to saving dogs for several years. Aria relocated to Saipan from Colorado in 2018 and has been rescuing, nurturing, and providing veterinary care to homeless dogs since then.
When they first encountered Smoosh during another rescue effort, they simply couldn’t turn her down. She was severely malnourished, thin, and suffering from a serious skin ailment. They promptly took her home, marking the beginning of her healing journey.
Following the first vet checkup, Smoosh, who was three months old at the time, was diagnosed with ticks and severe mange.
Her skin was largely absent and her general health was quite poor, yet she never lost her spirit. Although initially very timid and bashful, it took merely a month for this lovely pup to start opening up.
“This sweet shy girl is battling tick disease and severe mange, but that doesn’t hinder her from being a loving and playful puppy! Smoosh is 4 months old and will tackle you for cuddles if given the opportunity,” BB shared on Instagram.
The Boonie Babies team exhausted every effort to assist Smoosh in regaining her strength, and before long, her life took a remarkable turn!
A Transformed Pup
With a touch of love and adequate treatment, Smoosh evolved into a brand-new dog within just a few months. Her coat fully regrew, and she could not have been happier.
She absolutely relished her mealtimes and would instantly switch to “bouncy” mode every time food was presented.
“Smoosh is now bouncing off the walls, and we couldn’t be more thrilled that she’s finally comfortable expressing herself,” her rescuers posted on Instagram.
Smoosh quickly became the favorite among everyone. All the other rescue dogs adored her, and she truly relished being the big sister to all the foster pups in need of assistance and care.
The most exciting news, however, arrived at the BB’s address four months after Smoosh was rescued. An extraordinary family fell in love with this delightful pup’s story and chose to welcome her into their family permanently!
