The moment M. Roger Massey learned about a small Pittie stranded in the woods, he recognized that action was necessary.
Nevertheless, he was unaware that the rescue of the puppy would prove to be quite challenging.
Abandoned Pup
Throughout three weeks, Roger not only attempted to aid the pup himself, but also reached out to several animal rescues.
However, since the dog had not acclimated to human presence, and the rescue organizations were nonresponsive, Roger initially faced difficulties in his rescue endeavor.
“I bring him food and water, yet he won’t allow me to approach him. He permits my dogs to come near. He has only three legs and is clearly a victim of serious abuse and neglect,” Roger shared in a Facebook update.
The terrified dog, later named Pappas, simply could not comprehend what was happening.
Emerging from such a tragic background, Pappas likely believed that humans were as malevolent as his previous owners, unaware that they intended to assist him.
I have rescued four forsaken dogs from this park, but this one is too aggressive for a layperson to handle.
Resolutely pursuing the worried pup, Roger persisted in reaching out to animal rescues whilst still delivering sustenance and hydration from a secure distance.
Ultimately, Saving Hope Animal Rescue answered the plea for help and made their way to the scene.
Rescue Mission
It appeared that when Pappas noticed two volunteers nearing him, he concluded that he no longer wished to remain in the woods.
The volunteers successfully placed a leash around his neck, and the exhausted Pittie was too weary to resist; instead, he simply acquiesced.
As soon as Pappas felt the comforting touch of one of his rescuers, there was a transformation in him.
He no longer felt threatened, enabling him to reveal his genuine character.
Pappas became the most affectionate little Pit Bull yearning for love and devotion, and both the rescuers and Roger were elated.
“He possesses the most expressive eyes and craves cuddles, wanting to follow his human everywhere,” remarked Lauren Anton, the executive director of Saving Hope Animal Rescue.
New Life
Upon arrival at the rescue, a veterinarian conducted a comprehensive examination.
Regrettably, Pappas was found to have severe arthritis and tested positive for heartworm. He immediately began receiving treatment and joint supplements.
Nevertheless, he refused to let this diagnosis dampen his spirits in his new existence!
By becoming so irresistibly charming, Pappas quickly found a loving foster home where he learned the true meaning of being cherished.
I am convinced that this delightful pup will also experience the extraordinary affection and care that only a permanent family can provide, reaffirming to Pappas that kind-hearted individuals will always inhabit this world.
