Every dog requires compassionate humans who will care for them and treasure them eternally. Our pets are our family, and it is our duty to provide them with a nurturing home.
Unfortunately, some dogs encounter callous owners who see things differently. They discard their furry friends without a trace of empathy.
Justice and Liberty are two canines who were also forsaken. Despite living as strays and battling for their existence, they maintained hope that someone would come to their aid.
Hoping To Be Rescued
On July 4th, 2022, Justice and Liberty were discarded by their family in a back alley in Southern California. The dim alley became their shelter, and they endured a year there, hoping for someone to liberate them.
The couple residing nearby couldn’t invite the pups into their home due to their rental agreement.
Instead, they frequently provided food and constructed a doghouse for them.
Throughout the day, the dogs occasionally wandered off in different directions, yet they always came back to their makeshift shelter by night. The two companions would cuddle and comfort one another.
Just a few days before marking their first year on the streets, Suzette Hall, the founder of Logan’s Legacy, learned about two stray dogs requiring her assistance.
Pups Get The Help They Have Been Waiting For
When she arrived at the location where the two dogs resided, Hall was astounded by their living situation.
“The ground was so coated in tar that I struggled to walk. They were smeared with tar and infested with ticks and fleas.”
Although Justice and Liberty were overjoyed and appreciative that assistance arrived, enticing them into the traps was a challenge.
Ultimately, the seasoned rescuer managed to capture the two companions. Hall’s heart melted as Liberty showered her with kisses, an unforgettable rescue moment for Hall.
“I kept telling them, ‘This is it, you’re free! It’s the Fourth of July, it’s your independence! They understood it was their liberation day. That’s precisely why we named them Liberty and Justice,” Hall recounted.
A Road To Recovery
Hall transported the dogs to her van, where they spent the night in her residence. The pups were elated to find safety, cuddling with one another until dawn.
The following morning, Hall took them to Camino Pet Hospital in Irvine, California, for health assessments. The adorable pups enjoyed a bath, and due to Liberty’s tangled fur, she underwent grooming.
After the veterinarians removed two pounds of fur from her, they were astonished by her transformation. Liberty was nearly unrecognizable.
Justice’s dedicated companion, Liberty, was identified with a variety of tick-related illnesses. His new companions felt disheartened by his diagnosis, yet they remained optimistic about Justice’s recovery.
The vets projected that he would recover within a month.
While the two dogs formed a close bond during their time on the streets, they gained confidence and independence post-rescue.
Hall believed that they could eventually be placed in separate forever homes.
Justice Finds A Forever Home
After Justice made a full recovery, his foster mom, Susan, welcomed him into her home. She showered him with affection and guided him to become a joyful pet.
On August 18, 2023, Susan joyfully shared that Justice found his forever family. He was embraced by an incredible mom, Kim, who treasured him immensely.
Justice felt secure and adored the moment his mom held him close for the first time. He radiated happiness. The endearing pup recognized her as his forever mom. She renamed him Sandy.
As of this article’s publication, it remains uncertain whether sweet Liberty was adopted.
