Apart from nourishment, hydration, and an abundance of affection, a stroll with his cherished companions brings joy to any canine. That’s precisely how Freddie, the dog, felt one day when his family took him for an outing by the river.
Sadly, in his excitement, this furry friend became so disoriented that he lost awareness of his surroundings, resulting in him plunging 14 feet from the riverbank into the churning waters below.
His family was utterly stunned in that instant. Nevertheless, one of his guardians swiftly regained composure and contacted the appropriate authorities capable of undertaking this sensitive rescue operation.
Compassionate Rescuers In Action
Soon after his cherished pet fell into the water, one of Freddie’s guardians dialed 999 to request the coastguard. Just before ending their shift after a hectic day, the rescuers from RNLI received an urgent call to rescue the dog from drowning.
Even though they were already fatigued, these individuals deemed every life significant, prompting them to enthusiastically embark on yet another rescue mission. In under a minute, they reached the precise area, where Freddie’s anxious owner was leaning over the riverbank in search of his dog.
Then, unexpectedly, as they gazed down, they spotted dark eyes surfacing from the water, with paws gripping the bank.
It was a terrified Freddie, and as soon as these compassionate rescuers caught sight of him, they stopped the vessel and, with a swift and skilled response, rescued him to safety. It’s challenging to determine who felt more joy at that moment – Freddie or his rescuers.
Elated and pleased that this rescue endeavor had been successfully achieved, they made their way back to the shore together.

Reunion With His Family
When Freddie and the rescue team neared the shore, the port staff were left astonished – in a positive light, of course.
“I spotted the lifeboat with its flashing blue lights against the shoreline, and the next moment it was approaching me,” recounted port line handler Chris Turner in a press statement. “I didn’t anticipate them to dock at the terminal with a dog on board!”
Fortunately, that was precisely what transpired, and the best was yet to follow for this dog. It came swiftly after Freddie reached the dock and shook off the water from his fur – he was at last reunited with his family.
This heartwarming moment served as a reminder to these rescuers of why they cherish their profession and why they will persist in their work with even greater enthusiasm.
“It’s always a wonderful sensation to witness the reunion of a dog with its owner,” RNLI volunteer Aaron Reynolds concluded.
