Every stray canine is deserving of rescue, even those pups that demonstrate considerable aversion to humans.
Many of these doggos have endured harsh experiences, causing them to lose trust in humanity.
However, determination often yields results, as these doggies learn to reopen their hearts and show affection to humans once more, particularly those who liberate them from cruel situations.
The One Abandoned at the Dump
Hope For Paws received a notification regarding three dogs left behind at a landfill in Mojave, California. Two of the volunteers, Katie McKittrick and JoAnn Wiltz, promptly took action. They spent two hours traveling to the site.
When they arrived, however, they discovered that there was not a trio of pups as indicated in the message, but only one… a German Shepherd. According to local workers, someone had already claimed the other two canines, but they couldn’t get close to the GSD.
During their discussions, the rescuers learned that the third dog had been at the landfill for over a year.
After thirty minutes of searching, the GSD finally emerged, but he was terrified of humans and refused to approach the volunteers.
At that point, McKittrick and Wiltz opted to modify their approach and set a trap for the Shepherd.
They brought the kennel and positioned it beneath the trailer where they had seen the dog. The canine cautiously approached the kennel and eventually got himself ensnared within it.
The rescuers quickly made their way over to establish initial contact and then lifted the cage to place it in their truck.
Andrew, The Rough Gem
It was at this moment they discovered that the dog they rescued was actually a male, despite initially believing him to be a female. They deemed the name ‘Andrew’ suitable for this handsome boy.
After a veterinary assessment, the volunteers encountered yet another hurdle – acclimating Andrew to the leash. While he didn’t lash out at them, the German Shepherd was distinctly averse to the leash and completely stiffened up when they attached it to him.
Initially, getting him to walk was challenging, but he at least wasn’t averse to cuddles and affection.
The lengthy stay in a landfill had clearly affected him, necessitating a long and warm bath to cleanse his fur of all the grime.
Even though he still appeared somewhat apprehensive, it was clear that he genuinely relished the bathing experience, along with the affection showered upon him by the staff at the rescue.
The City Of Angels as a Foster Home
According to the staff from Hope For Paws, Andrew was taken in by the LA Animal Rescue. After learning about his journey, the rescue staff eagerly sought to provide love and compassion to the unfortunate canine.
They also made a commitment to help Andrew rebuild his trust in people and find the human he truly deserves.
A month later, LA Animal Rescue shared an update, revealing that Andrew is now relishing life to the fullest.
The transformation he has undergone is astonishing, and he bears no resemblance to the dog from the story’s outset.
This pup is now joyful, vibrant, and eagerly anticipates finding his ideal family. He has even formed new friendships in the park – one of which is with Ziggy, an adorable pooch who is also on the lookout for a forever home.
