Upon receiving a report about the dreadful incident of animal abuse, Shira Scott Astrof, the founder of The Animal Rescue Mission, based in West Hollywood, California, felt devastated.
“It shattered my heart, these tiny little Chihuahuas with chains weighing more than their bodies,” Astrof told The Dodo.
The Animal Rescue Mission saved all the dogs and brought them into their care.
Annie and Layla arrived at the shelter in the same crate, as the rescuers were determined to keep them together.
The canines were bewildered and did not comprehend the unfolding events. Their expressions revealed the profound sorrow they endured.
The rescue team took them to the veterinarian.
Prior to the Chihuahuas undergoing a medical examination, the veterinary team removed the chains from around their necks. The small, undernourished canines sighed with relief.
