Suzette Hall has always been an avid canine enthusiast, but following the passing of her son, Logan, the act of rescuing these beloved creatures became her life’s purpose. Consequently, she chose to establish a non-profit rescue organization, Logan’s Legacy 29, under which she has already aided numerous animals in need.

Therefore, when her close friend, Nanette, alerted her that a stray dog was meandering near her workplace, she immediately sprang into action. This unfortunate Shepherd mix, later named Loy, previously resided in a nearby apartment complex with his owner.

Regrettably, the building was engulfed in flames, and his owner could not be found, leaving the distressed dog to roam in search of a safe haven.

The unfortunate circumstances faced by the dog, combined with the fact that he was a Shepherd mix—which held particular significance for her—encouraged her to swiftly head to the location.

A Vicious Circle Of Despair

Upon Hall’s arrival at the scene, she quickly realized that this would not be an uncomplicated task. With his dwelling destroyed and his owner missing, the frightened dog was in a dire mental state.

“We do not know what transpired with his owner,” Hall expressed in a Facebook post. “[The] poor sweetheart was so forlorn and isolated … utterly terrified.”

Nonetheless, these compassionate individuals were resolute in their mission to rescue him, trailing him for an extended period with the hope of encountering an opportunity.

During this time, Loy concealed himself quite cleverly. Only on a handful of occasions did Hall and Nanette catch glimpses of him dashing into the street, nearly colliding with cars. However, they soon learned of his primary route after the camera documented him at the cat feeding station.

“[The] poor sweetheart was so famished, he resorted to visiting the cat feeding station for nourishment …” Hall mentioned. “The cats frightened him.”

After an unsuccessful attempt, Loy returned to the charred building – a place that once was his home. Hall and her companion soon recognized it was a cruel cycle of despair from which he was unable to break free.

“[T]his gentle boy kept returning to the only home he ever knew, back to the ashes,” Hall noted. “He yearned so intensely to return and find his home as it once was.”

This sorrowful reality further galvanized them to rescue Loy, leading them to resolve to remain there for as long as necessary, waiting for the opportune moment.

A Meaningful Rescue

The days spent in that dreadful area waiting to capture Loy were challenging, but ultimately their perseverance bore fruit.

“This morning, I arrived early … I witnessed him frantically entering and exiting his former home,” Hall shared. “All that remained was soot and debris. I prepared my trap and hoped for the best.”

After setting the trap, Hall quietly withdrew so Loy would not detect her presence. Upon hearing a loud bark, she realized they had triumphed at last.

It took a significant amount of time for Loy to relax, as all of this was extremely traumatic for him. Yet, Hall and Nanette did everything in their power to reassure him of his safety, and eventually, they accomplished their goal.

Shortly thereafter, Loy and Hall were en route to the veterinary clinic. Fortunately, following a thorough evaluation, the vet confirmed that Loy was in good health.

Determined to secure a bright future for this Shepherd mix, she swiftly located a foster home for him.

Although the profound scars from losing his home have not fully healed, Loy is progressing towards recovery thanks to the boundless affection from his foster family. Hall was especially joyful for him because her motivation to assist this dog stemmed from a more profound reason.

Her late son, a passionate dog lover who was the primary influence behind establishing the rescue organization, had a particular fondness for Shepherds. This is precisely why she viewed this undertaking as more than merely another rescue mission, dedicating its success in his honor.

“Rescued in loving memory of my angel 😇,” Hall concluded.
