Were you aware that dogs can also suffer from a fractured heart? Yep, you have read that correctly! Additionally, an even more astonishing aspect is that it can show up just as vividly or even more severely than in humans.

This is precisely what transpired with Reese, an elderly canine lady who was on the verge of surrendering when her dearest companion, Morgan, departed this life. This remarkable pair was inseparable, and Reese simply couldn’t handle the reality that Morgan would never return.

She was genuinely at breaking point and appeared to be a hopeless situation until her mother arrived with the most incredible, life-altering revelation!

Reese was rescued from the streets of Abilene, Texas. As a 12-year-old senior, she felt a bit anxious and insecure around humans, but all that was about to transform in her new residence – with her new guardian, Amy Thatcher.

“She is undoubtedly one of the happiest dogs I know, and I am incredibly fortunate to have her in my life,” shares Amy.

Reese and Morgan, Amy’s other canine, were inseparable from their very first meeting. They practically did everything together; eating, sleeping, and playing until Morgan fell ill. At just 12 years old, this unfortunate dog was diagnosed with kidney disease and sadly passed away shortly thereafter.

Both Amy and Reese were crushed by the demise of their companion, but this furry girl appeared to be in a worse state.

Reese nearly completely ceased eating and she declined to take part in any activities. Her only action during that time was to sleep in her bed while shaking in distress.

“When Morgan passed away, Reese stopped eating and would occasionally refuse to rise up. Since there was nothing physically amiss with her, Reese was diagnosed with an ‘intense emotional reaction.’ In simpler terms, she had a broken heart,” the BFAS reported in their Facebook post.

Amy even sought fostering puppies to lift her spirits, but nothing appeared to be effective. Until, one fateful day, everything shifted!

The Most Incredible Revelation

Amy ventured to Best Friends Animal Society in Kanab, Utah, searching for another friend for Reese, and that’s when it all changed!

While browsing through shelter dogs that might be a suitable match for Reese, one enthusiastic face gained her interest.

It was Jeep – a one-year-old pup who instantly brought a smile to Amy’s face while wagging his tail excitedly! She plopped down on the floor, and Jeep took the chance to leap onto her lap.

It was an instant connection, and Amy realized she had to bring Jeep home, as he was so endearing.

It was a long gamble, as Reese was still in a quite poor condition, but Amy decided to bring Jeep home nonetheless to attempt to uplift her girl! And, oh boy, was that a brilliant choice!

After just a few days, Reese developed a fondness for her new sibling! Even with a significant age gap, she was already invigorated by his incredible enthusiasm.

“Jeep is the kind of canine with an infectious energy. You cannot help but smile when you are around him… Ultimately, Jeep healed not just one but two hearts,” the BFAS expressed.

The duo connected as if they had always known one another, and Reese finally began to smile again! Moreover, Jeep aided Amy in her healing journey, too!

Though she would never erase the memories of Morgan, Reese could finally look forward to brighter days ahead. And now, she undeniably has a motive to leave her comfy bed.
