Logan has consistently been an outstanding family pet, whether it involved his furry companions or the permanent family that would come later.
He was discovered as a stray in Texas alongside a pregnant partner. The pups were his, and he decided to remain with the female dog during her birthing process.
Following the delivery of the puppies, a rescue organization arrived and took the mother and her six pups, but they opted to leave Logan behind to be euthanized.
Logan was set to be euthanized immediately, but fortunately, he was rescued at the last possible moment.
Rescuing Logan’s Life
While Logan awaited euthanasia in a Texas high-kill shelter, one of the shelter employees noticed remarkable qualities in him and successfully delayed his euthanasia date twice.
Thankfully, this provided the essential time required to transfer Logan to a Colorado-based shelter. Shortly after arriving there, Logan was adopted by a fantastic couple from Colorado.
“We went to meet him, and I remember walking away, thinking, so we just met our dog. He was thin, frightened, timid, and all those things,” Alison Dickson, Logan’s mom, recounted to GeoBeats Animals.
During the initial days at his new residence, Logan remained extremely reserved and bashful. He was anxious about doing something incorrect or violating a rule that would lead to him being abandoned once more.
His owners are avid nature enthusiasts, and since they resided in Colorado, they opted to take Logan hiking. This appeared to be a pivotal moment in Logan’s journey.
His self-assurance began to surface, and Logan ultimately realized that he had discovered his forever family who would never abandon him.
“He is such a phenomenal athlete. He recognizes when my hiking bag is taken out, and he just gets thrilled,” Alison mentioned.
Guardian Of The Family
After adopting Logan, the family rescued another mixed breed named Phoenix, along with two cats, Milo and Lucy.
“Phoenix is the cuddliest little bundle of joy who has no clue that she’s a rescue at all,” Alison continued.
She blended perfectly with the entire family. Logan and Phoenix quickly became the best of pals, even with the cats.
While Alison works from her home office, her husband is away frequently on business trips. When her husband is not at home, Logan assumes the role of family protector.
“He adores him immensely. It’s almost as if Logan believes he is employed by my spouse. When my husband travels, Logan will sleep on the side of the couch facing the door. He becomes more alert and vigilant when my husband is absent,” Alison shared.
Alison states that she often likens Logan to Gandalf, from Lord of the Rings, a true guardian with profound emotions.
Since his adoption, Logan has experienced so much, sniffed, and explored countless new environments and items. He is at last a joyful dog.
“From a stray on the streets of Texas to the EUTHANASIA list at a shelter (💔!!), to the amazing individuals and rescue that facilitated his arrival to us…my life is significantly improved by having Logan in it,” Alison expressed in an Instagram post.
