She didn’t opt for the street existence. Someone had forsaken her previously.
However, when she became aware of her labor, it was already too late to escape the streets. There was insufficient time to seek a refuge. The babies were arriving, and she required all her vitality to bring them into this life.
Heartbroken, fatigued, on the brink of collapse…
This forsaken dog mother displayed both the delicacy and all the strength that a mother possesses within her.
Will her tale have a joyful conclusion? Will all this agony culminate in something wonderful for a change?
Well Done, Momma, The Puppies Are Born
The sight of a new dog mother lying helplessly next to her newborns that arrived just hours ago utterly shattered me.
The image was screaming, hollering, and shouting for assistance!
This unfortunate dog mother had no energy left in her.
How could she exhibit strength when she was broken in countless ways?
According to her collar, her prior guardians discarded her previously. It must have been due to her pregnancy. Without adequate food, hydration, or shelter, this gentle girl was roaming the streets, attempting to locate a tranquil place to give birth.
But, plans sometimes remain merely plans. Labor caught her by surprise, and she had to deliver right where she was: out on the street, on a piece of cardboard.
Six puppies entered this world. Tragically, two of them had already become angels by the time their mother delivered them.
Even though she was completely worn out, as soon as she noticed people nearing her, the mother summoned the last bit of her strength and stood up. She had to protect her little ones.
In her defense, she didn’t realize those individuals were there to assist her. She was in full protective mode, acting aggressively and striving to guard her babies. It seemed as though she didn’t recognize that sometimes, people can be benevolent, and not everyone is there to cause her harm.
The rescue team was confronted by the mother three times before they succeeded in securing her and her little ones to take them to safety.
Once back at the shelter, the rescuers were relieved to discover that the mother had sufficient milk to nourish her pups. Now, it was time to feed mother as well.
She was ravenous, utterly depleted, and yearning for a decent meal.
That day, the mother consumed three meals, and we all know that dogs typically have one to two meals a day. She devoured around 5 pounds of liver for her first two meals! That’s how desperate she was.
After the initial 48 hours, which were crucial, the puppies turned out to be just fine. They began to grow, open their eyes, and relish the joys of puppyhood.
The mother was doing well too, although she remained slightly traumatized and anxious around people. But, that’s acceptable. Eventually, the dog mother will find the strength to trust humans once more.
If it hadn’t been for these kind-hearted individuals, dog enthusiasts, and rescuers, the poor mother and her puppies would have faced starvation.
Following all the struggles in her young life, the mother was finally granted the life she has always deserved.
I understand we can’t rescue all stray dogs. We can’t adopt every single one or eradicate world hunger. But, we can at least spare some change to feed the dogs in our communities. If everyone contributed, the number of stray dogs in need would dramatically decrease.
