Rocky Kanaka is surrounded by dogs. However, this occasion saw our cherished dog rescuer knocked off balance. Upon witnessing the state of this Great Dane, Rocky was deeply unsettled. Such a large canine, yet, so emaciated.
Scooby was an embodiment of chaos, primarily due to his prior owners. He was moved repeatedly between the shelter and home, eventually abandoned because the children showed no interest in feeding him. This had a profound impact on Scooby, both mentally and physically.
Could Scooby recover and regain his former self?
Will Rocky manage, once again, to earn his trust?
The Skin And Bone Scooby Doo Look Alike
Great Danes… such regal canines!
Out of 200 recognized dog breeds known to humans, Great Danes stand out as giants, but in a favorable manner.
They are large dogs with sturdy builds and an even larger heart. Initially, their colossal heads and paws might intimidate, but there’s truly nothing to fear.
Experience has demonstrated that Great Danes are among the gentlest breeds.
This is precisely how Scooby presents himself.
This unfortunate Great Dane was abandoned and cast aside by his former owners simply because kids wouldn’t feed him. Seriously… expecting young children to shoulder such a significant responsibility? Come on…
After Scooby’s former hoomom left him, she clearly had other priorities. You don’t just abandon a dog because someone isn’t feeding him. You take responsibility and deal with it.
This dog is a shelter returnee. He had already been surrendered at a night drop-off and then retrieved later. However, the next time his family approached the shelter for whatever reason, they were relocating from California to another country and couldn’t take Scoob along.
No situation justifies the way Scooby appeared.
Scooby wasn’t meant to appear this way… a living skeleton. No Great Dane should look as Scoob did.
Rocky learned some rumors about Scooby, suggesting he was surrendered because his mother threatened her kids with abandonment if they didn’t feed him. Whether those rumors hold any truth is uncertain, but it certainly appears feasible.
Moreover, providing sustenance for a Great Dane is a considerable task and requires ample high-quality nourishment. Perhaps financial constraints were at play. Maybe, just maybe, raising a Great Dane was more than they bargained for.
Additionally, according to medical records, Scooby has a significant history of gastrointestinal troubles.
Rocky prefers not to dwell on the past. What’s done is done. The vital action now is to assist Scooby and set him on the correct path.
Sitting With Scooby
Rocky employs an excellent technique for resocializing rescue dogs. In case you missed it, he sits with them and endeavors to make them feel at ease, secure, and valued. Yet, he doesn’t simply rush into it. Rocky utilizes a method that proves effective every time.
When he approached Scooby, the dog was already fairly relaxed, yet that wasn’t an indication to act hastily. Rocky consistently proceeds with caution, allowing the dog to familiarize himself with the newcomer, while offering treats as a gesture of goodwill.
Being the good boy he is, Scooby readily embraced Rocky and his treats, along with praise and belly rubs that followed. This type of method alleviates the stress off dogs and avoids placing them in the spotlight, preventing discomfort.
Scoob had ample opportunity to acclimate to Rocky’s presence.
“Oh, I’m so sorry Scooby, whatever you’ve endured, you don’t deserve it,” Rocky reiterated in the video while providing cuddles and treats to Scoob, “We’re going to fill your belly, and we’re gonna fill your heart.”
As Rocky conducted the ultimate trust test, the scoop, he could feel the protruding bones of the dog. Scooby’s spine and ribs were visible. He was nothing like a typical Great Dane.
Further assessment revealed that Scoob is likely a Great Dane mix, possibly containing some Mountain Cur or Ridgeback lineage.
It was truly unfortunate because beneath that skin and bones lay a stunning dog with beautiful coloring. Scooby merely required a touch of love and affection to flourish.
And, Rocky ensured he received all of it, and even more.
Scooby’s Bright Future
Named after a beloved cartoon character, Scooby Doo, this Scoob has a promising future awaiting him.
Owing to Rocky, this large dog will have supporters contributing food for an entire year. A big dog like Scooby requires a substantial amount of sustenance and delights in munching on Scooby snacks.
Within a brief span, Scooby transformed into an entirely new dog. The positive change is unmistakable. He’s gaining weight swiftly, but the most reassuring aspect is that his health is consistently monitored, indicating no severe concerns.
Nonetheless, the most significant transformation is in Scooby’s demeanor. Unlike his prior encounter with Rocky, Scooby was now wagging his tail enthusiastically. He appeared overjoyed to see a familiar face and eager to convey how well he’s faring.
After spending a short period at the shelter, receiving abundant attention and care from shelter staff, Rocky, and other kind-hearted individuals, Scoob was prepared for adoption.
At the time of Rocky’s update video, Scooby was anticipating meeting potential adopters. Here’s hoping this sweet and troubled soul finally finds the loving home he rightfully deserves, whether in California or elsewhere.
