While enjoying a tranquil walk with her canine friends by the river, Jane Harper noticed something alarming.

The anguished yelps of a suffering dog reverberated in the air, prompting Jane to swiftly turn her gaze towards the riverbank.

Without a second thought, she dashed towards the origin of the commotion. To her dismay, she found a Belgian Shepherd frantically floundering in the water.

Upon closer inspection, Jane made an even more startling realization – the dog was bound to a substantial stone within a duffel bag, purposely ensnared by its leash!

She recognized this was not simply an incident where a dog unintentionally fell into the river. Somebody had maliciously attempted to harm the unfortunate dog by trying to drown it. Consequently, Jane understood she needed to act swiftly.

With a sudden surge of energy and resolve, she managed to retrieve the dog from the water. Yet, she didn’t pause there.

She quickly transported the Belgian Shepherd, later recognized as Bella, to the nearby veterinarian.

The veterinary team exerted significant effort to ensure Bella’s well-being and facilitate her recovery from the traumatic ordeal. Fortunately, their relentless work yielded results, and Bella gradually began to improve.

Meanwhile, the authorities were not idly standing by. Jane alerted them about the situation, prompting the police to launch an investigation.

However, here’s the intriguing twist – Bella had a microchip implanted in 2010, which allowed the police to track down her owner.

This was a crucial lead that directed them to a 31-year-old woman named Charlene Latham.

They acted swiftly and promptly apprehended Latham on suspicion of animal cruelty crimes. Thankfully, it seems that justice was efficiently pursued.

Later, during court proceedings, Latham confessed to the attempt of drowning Bella. Meanwhile, Bella was steadily recuperating at the veterinary clinic.

Though she wasn’t very resilient, she began to exhibit encouraging signs as time passed. Everyone remained hopeful about her full recovery.

This courageous canine still has a considerable journey ahead, but due to Jane’s compassion and the commitment of the veterinary staff and police, she has a chance at a brighter future, free from abuse.
