When Kosandra Ramirez, a rescuer at ThisIsHouston, a rescue organization based in Houston, Texas, became aware of a dog in Cleveland that required immediate assistance, she promptly set out to save him.
Upon her arrival at the site, Ramirez spotted the canine who appeared to have lost all hope.
Curled up tightly, he was lying beneath a mobile home and shivering from the cold. He was so undernourished that his bones were visible through his skin.
The rescuer instantly attempted to lift him and transport him to the veterinary clinic.
However, the dog was petrified of Ramirez and did not allow her to come near him.
The Dog’s Struggle For Survival
The rescuer inferred from the dog’s actions that he had never encountered compassionate humans. He was wild.
Fortunately, although it was challenging, Ramirez succeeded in rescuing the dog, who was later named Chief, and she hurried him to an emergency veterinary facility.
Chief dozed off during the journey. Upon waking up thirty minutes later, he felt bewildered and anxious. He was unsure of what was happening.
Upon arriving at the clinic, the dog was thoroughly assessed.
The veterinarian believed that at some point, the dog had been struck by a vehicle.
After conducting the required examinations, it was discovered that Chief was suffering from severe anemia and a high white blood cell count.
He began to receive intravenous fluids.
One evening, Chief experienced a seizure. Ramirez was terrified for the pup and thought she had lost him, but fortunately, the doctors managed to stabilize him.
Subsequently, the dog was moved to specialists who diagnosed him with hepatozoonosis, a rare tick-borne illness.
Regrettably, the condition is not curable but can be controlled.
Chief was given antibiotics and soon began to improve.
Finding Affection
After spending four weeks at the clinic, Chief was released.
Ramirez brought him home and fostered him.
She cared for him and aided him in regaining his strength. As he began to walk, the rescuer observed that the dog had developed a limp.
Once he regained his energy, the dog underwent femoral head ostectomy (FHO) surgery and made a complete recovery.
Chief loved to play with his doggy foster siblings who were teaching him how to be a dog.
Though he began to trust his foster mom, the dog still resisted cuddling with her.
He underwent training that assisted him in regaining his confidence.
Due to Ramirez’ care and affection, the dog eventually opened his heart to love and allowed his foster mom to shower him with affection.
The Permanent Home Of His Dreams
The adorable dog regained weight and underwent a remarkable transformation.
A lovely family chose to adopt him and provide him the life he deserved.
When he first settled in with his new family, the dog hid in the bathroom and the bedroom closet, trying to evade their presence. He required some time to acclimate to his new surroundings.
However, with the unwavering love of his new parents, Chief came to understand that he was secure.
His canine brother, Lou, became his closest companion, and the two dogs enjoyed playing together.
As time progressed, Chief emerged from his shell and formed a bond with his forever family.
The lovely dog enjoys his best life with his family and his canine brother.
Many thanks to all the compassionate individuals who assisted Chief in obtaining the second chance at happiness that he so richly deserved.
