Anita serves as a foster caregiver, providing specialized attention to newborn and handicapped dogs for local animal rescues in Florida. Upon learning that a tiny, premature Chihuahua named Stuart required her assistance, she promptly agreed to care for him.
Unfortunately, Stuart’s mother dismissed him because he was smaller than his siblings.
As he lacked the strength to nurse from his mother, his sole opportunity for survival lay in the hands of a seasoned foster caregiver who would offer him continuous support.
The instant Anita lifted Stuart into her palms, she understood just how small and delicate he actually was. His head was no bigger than her thumb.
Ensuring Stuart Receives The Best Possible Care
Anita was determined to help this little pup thrive. She set up an incubator-like setting using a laundry basket. During the night, her alarm would signal every two hours, prompting her to wake and feed Stuart with a tube.
Once he gained some weight, Anita transitioned to using a syringe for feeding him.
Over time, Stuart gained strength and was able to climb on the towel in his incubator.
Anita felt relief witnessing Stuart’s improvement. He proved to be a resilient little fellow loaded with vigor and enthusiasm.
“Just a few days prior, he didn’t even possess the strength to crawl to Mom. He was incredibly inquisitive and eager for whatever adventures awaited him,” shared Anita.
Anita lavished immense care on him. She cuddled him and enveloped him with affection.
Stuart Exhibits Remarkable Improvement
With Stuart still lagging in his development, Anita purchased numerous sensory toys. She wished to enhance his coordination skills.
The musical mouse quickly became his favorite toy. Initially, he was unsure how to interact with it and would merely lie nearby in his doggy bed.
Slowly, he began teething, carrying the musical mouse in his mouth.
Anita adored Stuart’s character. He was persistent, putting in effort each time. Eventually, he could shake and toss the toy about.
“This provided a fantastic way to gauge his progress, as he increased in size and coordination. We also witnessed his little feisty side emerge,” remarked Anita.
Discovering His Place Under The Sun
Once she noticed that the puppy was robust and capable of moving independently, she recognized it was the right moment to seek him a permanent home.
Anita acknowledged that bidding farewell to the pup would be challenging. Stuart frequently showered her with affection, licking her face with adorable little kisses. He brought a tremendous amount of happiness to her life.
Before introducing Stuart to his new mom, Anita reminded the adorable puppy that his new mother, Bridget, would relish his kisses as well.
Stuart was thrilled to meet his forever mom. The moment she cradled him, Stuart melted with affection, and Anita felt assured that they would share a profound love for each other.
“Departures are difficult, but I believe she bonded with him in a profoundly deep manner. It’s a bittersweet moment, yet I had complete faith that she would assist him in continuing to grow into a well-rounded little guy.”
Stuart embarked on a new chapter with his mom, who cherished him dearly. The adorable Chihuahua adores showering her with affectionate kisses.
