A real estate broker commenced her workday as customary, looking forward to an ordinary day. Nonetheless, upon unlocking the entrance to the unoccupied home she was scheduled to check, she found herself utterly astonished.
She presumed that the house would be in acceptable condition, seeing as the preceding residents had departed nearly a month prior, yet what she encountered was a scenario far from tidy.
It became evident that the former occupants had abandoned the dwelling in complete turmoil and disarray. Additionally, to her disbelief, she stumbled upon a playpen housing seven small furry creatures that the tenants had apparently neglected to take with them.
The realtor was at a total loss for words.
An Astonishing Furry Revelation
The seven bunnies had been confined to a playpen, living amid their own waste for nearly a month.
They were in dire need of assistance.
Lyla Frick, the originator and executive director of Pumpkin’s Acres Rabbit Rescue Inc., which provided refuge for the seven bunnies, informed The Dodo that the unfortunate bunnies had been left to fend for themselves for nearly a month.
“The tenant exited before Christmas, so the rabbits were left alone for about a month prior to someone reaching out to us. Evidently, somebody was going there every few days to provide them with pellets and water, but there were frequently instances when they had neither. They were also not supplied with any hay, which is vital for a rabbit’s diet,” she articulated.
The realtor was tirelessly attempting to secure a placement for the bunnies, consistently facing refusals because of overcrowded shelters.
Fortunately, upon hearing their tragic tale, Pumpkin’s Acres Rabbit Rescue readily agreed to take them in.
“The conditions they were living in and the neglect they endured were heart-wrenching. Thankfully, thus far, they all seem to be relatively healthy despite everything they’ve gone through,” Frick stated.
The group of seven bunnies comprised the mother and her four offspring (approximately five months old) alongside two additional females that were unrelated to them.
Fortunately, they were rescued just in time; otherwise, they might not have lasted much longer.
Searching For A Forever Home
All the bunnies have been placed in temporary foster arrangements while the rescue organization seeks to find them a nurturing forever home.
“We have a TEMPORARY foster for these buns, but no permanent caregivers. Currently, the babies are still nursing and must remain with their mother. However, at 8 weeks, they all require separation. We genuinely desperately need foster homes,” the rescue shared on their Facebook post.
After an examination by a veterinarian and a gender assessment, the bunnies also received names.
“Brandy is the mother of Bourbon (male), Malibu (female), Mojito (male), and Mimosa (female)!💕 The mom and her offspring are all absolutely endearing and incredibly sweet. Kahlua and Amaretto are both females who truly cherish exploring and are becoming very affectionate toward pets,” the rescue reported.
They are all expected to soon find their forever homes.
“After everything they endured, they are eager for the affection and care of their foster parents, a tidy resting place, and all the hay they could ever dream of. The neglect they faced has not diminished their spirits whatsoever. Their resilience is remarkable,” Frick mentioned.
