Many individuals hold the belief that dogs are so rowdy that leaving them alone is sure to result in chaos. Michael Brown, a dog parent from Santa Monica, California, shared this viewpoint.
He had no prior experience with dogs until a few months ago, as he had never possessed a dog prior to that time. Then he stumbled upon adopting a puppy, which inadvertently started his journey of acquiring “canine experience.”
However, a few months down the line, he remained uncertain about how his puppy would act when left unsupervised at home. This uncertainty led him to perform a type of experiment.
The outcome of this “experiment” astonished him significantly.
Truly A Good Boi
A few months after Michael welcomed a puppy named Cactus from Pups Without Borders, a rescue organization in Los Angeles, California, he made the decision to determine how Cactus would respond when left alone at home.
Michael understood that Cactus was a delightful dog, but that was only while he was present. He was convinced that Cactus would not act nearly as well in his absence.
After initiating crate training in August, Michael resolved to leave Cactus alone in the crate with the doors unlatched. Since the crate was placed right beside his bed, he anticipated finding a chewed bed and various items scattered throughout the house.
However, upon returning to the room after some time, he was astounded yet thrilled. Despite having complete freedom to exit the crate and engage in any activity he desired, Cactus demonstrated that he was a good dog and stayed inside, waiting faithfully for his owner’s return.

Following this extraordinary incident, Michael attempted a few more strategies to coax Cactus out of the crate. Initially, he increased the volume of the television in the adjacent room, but Cactus remained inside. Then, he provided a plush bed and placed it right next to the crate, yet Cactus stayed loyal to his crate.
Ultimately, when he felt out of options, Michael opened his laptop and positioned it in front of the crate for Cactus to watch. This became Cactus’s most significant connection with the outside environment.
Cactus stayed true to his crate until the very end while showcasing that he was a good boy, proving that dogs, in general, know how to conduct themselves appropriately even in the absence of supervision.
