Canines may be unable to articulate, but their behaviors reveal more about their characters than any utterance could express. Moreover, they frequently exhibit sentiments that surpass human behavior.
A seven-week-old dog named Gunnar imparted a significant lesson to the world, demonstrating that dogs are indeed altruistic beings possessing profound gratitude and affection, along with an extraordinary capacity to forgive and overlook.
This malnourished, ill, and forsaken puppy still found the strength to wag his tail and offer his final morsel of food to those who came to aid him.
A Ray Of Happiness In The Dirt Of Reality
A tiny pooch named Gunnar was abandoned in a filthy area filled with refuse and a small amount of food, possibly scavenged from the trash.
Famished, fatigued, and unclean, yet with a heart brimming with affection, this little canine managed to endure under such circumstances until he was ultimately discovered and rescued by compassionate individuals from the Sidewalk Specials.
Gunnar resembled a walking piece of bread, as the slice was nearly as large as he was. He carried it with boundless delight and enthusiasm, which shattered the hearts of not only his rescuers but anyone who witnessed the video of his rescue shared by The Dodo.
The little doggo could hardly see through all the grime covering him, but upon the approach of the Sidewalk Specials team, his excitement grew as he sensed he was being saved. One of the rescuers recounted to The Dodo:
“We arrived just in time for him. He had endured a week of cold, fear, and solitude. His overwhelmingly positive spirit kept him moving.”
Just as the pup was delighted to see his champions, they too were relieved to have discovered him before it became too late.
Hope Dies Last
The rescuers understood that the pup they encountered was in dire condition, yet they were unaware of the extent until they brought him to the veterinarian.
Following a complete assessment, Gunnar was found to have numerous health ailments, each of which posed a significant threat to his overall health.
Ticks, canine fever, worms, and anemia were just a few of the medical issues little Gunnar was grappling with. Nevertheless, with the assistance of medical experts and canine enthusiasts, this pup was soon able to enter a nurturing foster home.
His status as a puppy may have played a role in his survival and recovery, but I firmly believe that his upbeat demeanor was crucial in keeping him alive.
Finding His Furever Home
Freya, a dog lover, felt an instant bond with Gunnar upon meeting him, which led her to eagerly welcome him into her household and family.
It appears Gunnar reciprocated the sentiment, at least based on Freya’s account:
“He wasn’t hard to bond with at all. It feels like he was incredibly grateful to have been rescued.”
The little furry fellow was overjoyed about his new abode, but there was one particular aspect that captivated him – grass.
It seemed as if he had never encountered it before, judging by the astonishment on his face when he first stepped onto the lawn at his new residence.
Today, he enjoys spending time outdoors playing with his preferred toy, but he is also fond of exploring and is intrigued by everything.
From A Tiny, Starving Doggo To A Big, Healthy Boy
Gunnar faced numerous challenges throughout his early puppy life, yet it was all worthwhile as he has become a cherished member of a loving family that cares deeply for him.
He is now an energetic pup who delights in running, sniffing, and playing with his beloved ball. However, there’s one pastime he treasures above all, and that’s gathering rocks.
Gunnar became enamored with this hobby from the onset of his life in Freya’s home, and it’s nearly impossible for him to spend a day at the beach without picking up at least one rock.
“He first scours the area, searching for the perfect rock. It’s not just any rock. Then, he presents it to you. He’s undoubtedly our little rockstar.”
This seems to be Gunnar’s means of expressing gratitude to his owner for all she has done for him.
Gunnar, The Foster Brother
Freya became a foster parent in 2020, allowing Gunnar to interact with many furry friends since then.
Given that he’s quite the social butterfly, relishing moments with humans and other animals alike, serving as a foster brother is a breeze for Gunnar.
He enjoys playing with his furry companions and guiding them throughout the house and yard.
Thanks to the wonderful individuals at Sidewalk Specials, Gunnar blossomed into an outstanding doggo loved and cherished by his devoted mom, Freya.
