Cora is a charming older Corgi who was saved from her past circumstances several years back, just a few months prior to her eighth birthday. Throughout her life, Cora has had several litters, with her last one yielding just a single healthy puppy.

Cora was finished with motherhood. She felt drained. The unfortunate canine had numerous health difficulties and never truly experienced what it meant to be cherished – until she encountered Madison.

Madison Palm welcomed Cora into her foster home and did not intend to adopt her. However, it soon became clear to Madison that parting with Cora would be impossible. Despite her challenging existence, Cora remains a joyful dog that spreads affection wherever she travels.

With such a lovely disposition, this serene and sociable dog was on her way to being a therapy animal.

“Cora’s character is remarkable; she’s a true sweetheart,” Palm informed The Dodo. “She is always right beside me and keeps a diligent watch if she’s not. If I’m unavailable, she chooses the next nearest lap to sit on and nudges your hand unless you pet her constantly. She is SO kind, and that is generally the first observation people make about her. Her gentle and caring disposition is always appreciated.”

Cora has no hesitation approaching unfamiliar faces and greeting them. She likely wouldn’t mind being stranded at an airport, right?

Right. Recently, Cora and her owner went on an adventure. There were plenty of new faces, and Cora was extremely thrilled. However, one individual was not as enthusiastic as Cora. A man, appearing sorrowful and despondent, was nearby.

“Cora simply strolled around our small seating area and greeted everyone passing by and sitting close to us,” Palm recounted. “She was dozing off, so I briefly released her leash while I took a break and enjoyed a snack; that was when she woke up and slipped over to him. Before I could even call her back, she was already at his feet receiving affection.”

Madison’s instincts kicked in, concerned that Cora might disturb the fellow traveler. However, her worries were alleviated when he expressed the opposite of her concerns.

“I inquired if she was bothering him, and with a melancholic expression and teary eyes, he replied, ‘No, no; I lost my dog last night.’ He scratched behind her ears, stroked her back, and whispered how adorable she was. He pulled out his phone to take a picture, and she sat right in front of him, facing him and remaining perfectly still for the shot.”

In a remarkable way, Cora sensed that the man needed solace and affection that day. Having known a life devoid of love, she could truly empathize with his feelings. Cora’s innate ability to provide love and empathy brightened that man’s day following the toughest night of his life.

The reality was that he had lost his dog the prior evening. Cora appeared to instinctively understand that the man at the airport required her warmth the most.

“She can sense who is in pain, and she recognizes who requires her presence. I have never doubted that,” Palm stated. “I am continually amazed by her. Who would have thought a dog that was unloved for seven and a half years could exude so much affection?”
