It is rather usual for rescuers to encounter dogs who have endured trauma inflicted by humans in various forms. Nonetheless, certain instances escalate to extreme levels.
There exist dogs that have experienced such prolonged suffering at the hands of individuals that they are unable to meet the gaze of their rescuers.
The team at this shelter encountered a similar predicament upon their initial meeting with Jindo. He was an exceptionally gentle dog who had endured something dreadful, profoundly affecting his psychological state.
His rescuers were taken aback by the condition he was in, yet they resolved to assist him in his healing journey from the trauma he had suffered.
He Couldn’t Look Them In The Eye
When the rescuers first approached Jindo in the shelter, they recognized the severity of his psychological wounds. Every time someone came near, he would attempt to retreat.
No matter their efforts, he would only begin to panic in their presence. They noted his tearful gaze and felt immense sorrow for him. Who could have mistreated this unfortunate pup?
They attempted to entice him with food, but he turned away from almost everything they presented to him. His trust was entirely absent.
At times, Jindo would even bark at his rescuers in fright, but he never attempted to harm them because he feared the consequences. This reveals a great deal about his past experiences.
Thus, the staff endeavored to speak in his vicinity, hoping to soothe him in some way, yet even three weeks later, Jindo’s status showed little improvement.
They continued offering him nourishment, but he remained unresponsive, prompting someone at the shelter to propose they encircle his head in protection. Perhaps it might assist.
Unexpectedly, he began to accept food from their hands after they did this. Everyone was astounded, yet relieved that he was gradually beginning to trust his rescuers.
Day by day, he was making strides, and everyone celebrated this progress. Jindo even allowed his rescuers to stroke him, although he was still somewhat hesitant.
A New Chapter In Jindo’s Life
While improvements were gradual, his rescuers took solace in witnessing his transformation.
Almost four months went by, and Jindo felt sufficient confidence to emerge from his kennel and engage with the other dogs present.
The team deemed it advisable to commence taking Jindo on brief walks around the shelter while on a leash; they attached it and were astonished by his calm demeanor throughout.
They worked with him to encourage more mobility, and his confidence blossomed with each day that passed. He gained weight and became significantly more lively.
Jindo exhibits a joyful demeanor around his rescuers, and they take immense pride in the progress he has achieved during the five months he has been in their care. He is noticeably more sociable now, particularly with other animals.
Despite his prolonged mistreatment, he was ultimately able to slowly restore his trust in humanity.
Although this process required considerable time, it is reassuring to know that Jindo is now capable of living a somewhat regular life.
While we remain uncertain about the future developments in his tale, or if he has secured a permanent residence with one of his rescuers, one fact is undeniable: he is now a joyous dog and has finally received the second chance he so desperately required.
