We all desire nothing but the best for our children. Those instincts reside within us and will never fade away.
This applies not just to humans, but to canines as well.
I can’t count the number of times I’ve witnessed courageous dog mothers battling for their young ones, discovering that one morsel of stale bread and returning it to them.
Those are the genuine animal champions.
Today, I’m excited to share with you the story of one dog champion that impressed me with her perseverance.
She was a stray, rescued and taken to the shelter. She had an awful existence… at least for the majority of it.
And now, she was expecting puppies.
This unfortunate dog didn’t wish for the same fate for her offspring.
You’ll be astonished to learn what she did to secure a better life for her pups.
No, I Won’t Go Into Labor Here
Let’s rewind to the past at the Cuyahoga County Kennel, in Valley View, Ohio. This local shelter became a temporary refuge for Storie… the unwanted Pittie that appeared heavily expectant.
Like any stray dog that finds its way to a shelter, Storie hoped for the moment when her new family would come and rescue her from all that suffering. Most importantly, she longed for a warm and comfortable home for her little ones.
Storie did not want the chilly shelter to be the first environment her pups encountered. She desired something more for them.
When you wish for miracles, miracles occur.
Just when she believed her pregnancy was nearing completion and that her puppies would soon arrive at the shelter, Storie was rescued.
Chris and Mariesa were avid dog lovers. They had owned and cared for at least a dozen dogs throughout the years. And, they still felt enthusiastic about the responsibility of being dog parents.
During their latest visit to Valley View Kennel, Chris and Mariesa opted to give some expectant dogs a second chance as they are among the most vulnerable groups.
This is where Storie makes her entrance.
Upon seeing her, the couple knew they had to take Storie home with them. She was due to give birth any day now. Moreover, they could see the urgency in her eyes that Storie was eager to leave the shelter and deliver her puppies in a different location.
There was no doubt: Storie was coming home with them.
The first stop was at their veterinarian’s office, where the X-rays revealed that the heavily pregnant Storie was carrying 12 puppies! This rescued girl was immensely brave, managing to carry her pregnancy to the very end… successfully.
Chris and Mariesa prepared everything for the puppies. The whelping box was set up, and the couple thought they would have a few days to bond with Storie, help her relax, and get to know her better.
However, Storie had other intentions. She had a significant surprise for her new parents.
Just 18 hours after moving into her new home, Storie began delivering her little ones, leaving Chris and Mariesa utterly astonished. No one anticipated it would happen so quickly.
One after another, twelve healthy pups entered the world.
Chris and Mariesa rejoiced that their rescue mission was successful and that Storie did not have to endure the stress of giving birth at the shelter.
And Storie was even more elated: she received exactly what she wished for.
The Happy Conclusion
Two weeks after their arrival in this world, the pups began to open their eyes and ears. Their lively nature surfaced. These twelve playful puppies brought immense joy to both the couple and their mother.
As they grew increasingly robust, it became evident that this group of Pitties would bring happiness to others as well. Everyone was enthusiastic to meet the little ones and provide them with permanent homes.
Even mother Storie found her forever parent… Chris’ best friend, Ryan.
All 12 little rascals found their loving homes in no time at all.
And in the end, everything turned out wonderfully.
Though they joked about adopting one or two of these puppies, Chris and Mariesa realized they were too fond of all of them to choose just one or two favorites. They also desired for others to experience the joy of being with these little dogs.
The lesson from this tale is abundantly clear: if you project positive things like Storie did, positive things will come your way.
This unfortunate stray did not allow negative thoughts to defeat her. She consistently maintained a positive outlook, eagerly awaiting the day when her fortunate star would finally shine on her.
And that is precisely what occurred.
