There are numerous occasions where one witnesses a rescuer or a compassionate individual rescuing a stray puppy from enduring the dreadful streets.
Nevertheless, what is challenging to comprehend is the extent of difficulty involved in such rescues, and not every abandoned dog will find salvation.
Often, they won’t be rescued. For this narrative, however, we will discuss a police officer who discovered a box beside the roadway and approached it only to uncover something inside.
A Very Hot Day
It was an exceptionally hot day in Georgia when Deputy Earl Hanners came across something peculiar near the road.
He opted to investigate. There lay a small box unattended. Upon looking inside, he discovered a puppy within.
Given the intense heat, he was astonished to find that someone had merely abandoned her there.
Hanners informed The Dodo: “She was in a cardboard box and it was shut. A passerby spotted the box, halted, and noticed the puppy inside. He then opened the box, set it on its side, provided some water, and called 911.”
Yet, a dilemma arose. Hanners needed to depart as he was responding to a car accident, thus he allowed others to assist her.
Despite that, Hanners wished to return and aid her, which he did at the earliest chance.
He stated: “I told the individual … to cancel animal control. I’m going to take the puppy to a vet and have her examined.”
Bridget’s New Chapter In Life
Hanners came back for her and brought the dog, now named Bridget, to his vehicle. It was time for her to enter a new household.
During the ride, he provided her ample food and water, and she appeared to be at ease in Hanners’ company.
Since she was with him, he wanted to keep her, so he opted to adopt her himself.
She was now becoming part of a large new family, as Hanners was recognized for rescuing and fostering dogs from an organization called Hounds in Pounds.
Before he presented her to his family, he took her to a vet in Georgia for a check-up and vaccinations.
Ultimately, he embraced her warmly. She integrated seamlessly with the other dogs, and is relishing her time with her new family.
Hanners commented: “We just introduced her to the other dogs in the house last night. It only requires a day or two of observing, and they mesh together as a pack.”
It’s truly remarkable to observe individuals like Earl Hanners, who devoted his life not just to aiding people, but also any animal in distress. His generosity serves as a model we should aspire to emulate.
