As a man trekked along a narrow, slick trail on Lookout Mountain in Phoenix, Arizona, he could not foresee the astonishment he was about to face.
His focus was solely on the trail until he spotted a pair of amber eyes shimmering in a crevice of the mountainside.
The man was taken aback when he recognized that the sorrowful, intense eyes belonged to an anxious and weary dog.
Her coat resembled the hue of soil, allowing her to seamlessly merge with her surroundings. Without her remarkable eyes, the hiker would have undoubtedly passed her by, oblivious to her presence.
The canine had no energy left in her undernourished body, nearing the point of conceding defeat.
Rescuing The Weary Pup
When the canine noticed the hiker nearing her, she raised her head to gaze at him. Her heart started to shine with hope that perhaps she could be rescued after all.
After reassuring the pup, the man contacted the Arizona Humane Society (AHS), requesting assistance for the pup.
The emergency animal medical specialists, Ruthie Jesus and Tracey Miiller from the AHS, swiftly made their way to the location.
The compassionate hiker stayed with the pup, later named Bright Eyes, for nearly two hours until the rescuers arrived.
“… She blends in so well, the witness mentioned he wanted to name her Bright Eyes because when he hiked past her, her glowing amber eyes were literally the only sight that caught his attention,” Jesus stated in a video recorded by the AHS after the rescue.
While the pup still felt frightened, she allowed the kind individuals to tend to her.
The medical specialists assessed Bright Eyes. Aside from being extremely dehydrated, she had lacerations on her paws and an injury on her hind end.
The rescue team immediately recognized her as a true darling. Bright Eyes permitted them to stroke her head.
However, due to her anxiety, the pup remained motionless in her sanctuary, necessitating the rescue team to gently extract her.
As Bright Eyes was too drained to walk, her rescuers alternated carrying her down the mountain.
The adorable pup relished being in their embrace. She felt secure and at ease.
The despair and anguish vanished from her eyes, now replaced with appreciation towards the compassionate humans who hurried to assist her.
The pup understood she was at last receiving the care she required.
The Lovely Dog Receives The Care She Required
No one is certain how Bright Eyes ended up on the mountain.
Their rescuers are overjoyed that she was discovered in time.
“We were extremely happy to be able to rescue her. She was just so dehydrated. I suspect she had been up there for several days, and that might have been her final day. This Good Samaritan truly saved her life,” Jesus remarked.
Bright Eyes was transported to a clinic where she received treatment, hydration, and antibiotics. Additionally, she was given care for her gastrointestinal issues.
The canine was estimated to be around two years old.
Once she completes her recovery, this beautiful girl from Arizona will begin searching for her forever family.
