It breaks my heart to observe that some dog owners believe differently, leading them to forsake their furry companions who are experiencing health challenges.
Guppy Hanson was deserted by both her biological mother and her owners due to a deformed leg and limited survival prospects.
Let’s accompany her on her journey as she discovers compassionate humans who embraced her as she was and gifted her a forever home.
Guppy Hanson
Guppy Hanson, a mix of Shih Tzu and Beagle, entered the world in Wetumpka, Alabama, on April 27th in 2022. Among four puppies, she faced rejection from her mother due to her leg deformity.
She was comparable to the size of a granola bar, with a weight of 4 ounces. Believing she had no possibility of survival, her owners abandoned her at Bryson Veterinary Clinic.
The veterinarians acknowledged Guppy Hanson’s determined spirit, convinced that she would thrive. They crafted a strategy and the staff members chose to care for her in shifts at their homes.
Becky Yourman, one of the staff members, was the initial person to bring the puppy home. The moment her daughter, Jess Lane, laid eyes on the little pooch, she fell for her.
She named her Guppy Hanson… Guppy because she was tiny like a little fish, and Hanson, inspired by the character, Hanson, in Scary Movie 2.
The Yourman family purchased her the essential supplements to accelerate her recovery.
With each passing day, the puppy grew stronger and stronger. By the time she turned three months old, she was ready for an X-ray. That’s when the Yourman family discovered that Guppy was missing a shoulder joint, alongside several additional bones.
Despite her deformed leg, it did not cause her pain, and the vet assured them that it didn’t need to be amputated.
You Are Cherished
Thanks to the sheer volume of affection she received in her forever home, the puppy continued to thrive.
Although Guppy Hanson never experienced the warmth and cuddles of her biological mother, the family’s other dog, Libby, embraced that role.
“[Libby] ended up being a wonderful surrogate mother for Guppy. She would groom her and provide love,” Lane shared.
The Yourmans observed that their pup didn’t respond to her name and remained unresponsive to loud sounds. They took her to the veterinarian, where they discovered that their affectionate puppy was deaf.
Relishing Life
Guppy did not allow her leg deformity to hinder her from savoring life. She has discovered her passion for digging, which quickly became one of her favorite pastimes.
Ascending the steps posed a slight challenge, but she overcame that hurdle as well. She learned to leap without her leg getting caught on the steps. From the moment she entered the world, she showcased her true fighting spirit.
She enjoys gnawing on her beloved toys and blankets, and relishes when her family takes her for a stroll in a stroller.
Her forever family ensures she acknowledges that she is profoundly loved every single day.
“My son embraces her daily and says to her, ‘You’re the most beautiful girl in the universe, yes, you are! He’s certainly right,” Lane stated.
Everyone who encountered Guppy Hanson couldn’t resist adoring her tale along with her playful and charming personality.
Guppy Hanson is very engaged on her Facebook page, frequently updating her audience on her daily activities and pastimes. Her most recent favorite activity is playing with empty toilet paper and paper towel rolls.
She celebrated her first birthday in April, and her family organized a fundraiser in her honor. The remarkable transformation Guppy Hanson has undergone is clear. She now radiates joy.
