The quaint village of Babylon, New York, experienced a delightful festivity on November 20th of the previous year; an occasion that took five years to unfold. The longest-standing resident of the Babylon shelter, a cherished Pitbull mix named Trigger, was formally adopted by the community.

The brown and white little guy donned a top hat and a tuxedo, appearing all dapper and pleased with it. Trigger struck a pose on the town hall steps alongside the only family he had known for the past five years – the personnel of the Babylon Animal Shelter.

Upon his shelter family’s initial meeting with Trigger, it became evident that the canine had endured a challenging existence. Although merely three years old, he was skeletal and riddled with injuries. The shelter’s veterinarian also uncovered several hereditary health issues.

Moreover, Trigger suffers from food sensitivities and an autoimmune disorder that leads to the wasting of the muscles in his head and face. His eyelids were also turned inward and required surgical intervention. While Trigger may appear down due to his numerous operations, he is now a joyful pup.

Trigger’s days at the shelter are far from dull. He typically wanders around the premises, shifting from one cozy bed to another, and rummaging through toys to locate his treasured studded lamb.

Trigger welcomes his regular treatments, as he enjoys any form of affection. Due to his medical conditions, he must adhere to a rigid schedule of medications and supplements, in addition to soothing baths and massages.

Besides his significant medical challenges, Trigger also exhibits behavioral issues, rendering him unsuitable for living with a family or other animals. Despite interest in adopting Trigger, the shelter had to remove him from the adoption list.

“He means so much to us, and we had to ensure he found the ideal home, and it turns out the perfect home is right here with us,” remarked Jill Sanacore, an animal control officer at the shelter.

Trigger is not merely another dog at the shelter; he holds significant meaning for the staff. In fact, many consider him their emotional support canine when the workplace feels overwhelming.

“He acts like the shelter’s therapist,” stated Kristin Siarkowicz, another animal control officer at Babylon.

The personnel at the shelter are well aware that their challenging days become significantly brighter with a wet doggy kiss from Trigger.

“He is a wellspring of joy and solace for us all,” continued shelter director, Chris Elton. “Having someone we can depend on, who consistently maintains a cheerful demeanor, and is always open to our affection and reciprocates our love, brings us immense tranquility.”

It can only be stated he’s perfectly where he belongs. And the residents of Babylon, New York, are delighted to have him close by!
