Upon receiving a call about a small deaf and blind puppy left on a sidewalk in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Melissa Shapiro realized she couldn’t just abandon him.

Considering that Melissa had already rescued a deaf and blind dog named Piglet, everyone understood that she would be an ideal candidate to care for this tiny creature.

Melissa’s household already included 7 dogs, making it quite challenging to care for one more.

Nonetheless, after discussing it with her husband, they concluded that they would provide temporary care for the little puppy, which eventually led to them adopting him.

Although the puppy, now referred to as Georgie, faces some challenges, he refuses to let them hinder his enjoyment.

“He’s very eager to be active. As soon as he touches the ground, his joy is unmistakable,” Melissa shared.

Georgie can hardly restrain his excitement each time his paws come into contact with the soft grass or, even better, the sandy beaches of Connecticut.

Doggo In Training

Melissa commenced teaching Georgie tap signals immediately upon their meeting.

Since she is unable to verbally communicate or utilize sign language, she interacts with Georgie through touch.

Nonetheless, Georgie has also discovered alternative methods to ease his life.

We have a tremendous time going for walks, and he has learned to maneuver about two feet beside me. Though he looks around, he cannot perceive anything due to his blindness. I believe he picks up scents and must sense some movement.

With his newfound sense of direction, Georgie delights in exploring his environment.

He has memorized the locations of the dog beds within the house, so whenever he uncovers something intriguing, he picks it up in his mouth and carries it over to the beds to showcase his findings.

He also heavily depends on his tactile senses, extending his paws in front of him to check for nearby objects.

If another dog had been around and moved away, he would begin barking and attempt to play with the invisible dog.

Final Word

This tale is remarkably motivating, featuring a dog who refuses to let his disabilities define him.

His perspective on life is free from any disabilities, rendering Georgie the merriest, most spirited pup around. Good boy, Georgie!
