There’s nothing more delightful in life than the opportunity to share the most precious moments with someone you cherish. This is precisely why David Bahnson, a retired surgeon from Rutland, Vermont, chose to express his enthusiasm for kayaking with his Golden Retrievers.
This is how it all commenced…
David Tailored His Kayak So Susie Could Accompany Him
David envisioned taking Susie, the family’s first Golden Retriever, out onto the water when he noticed her comfortably fitting into the storage compartment.
Typically, this section is too cramped for an extra paddler, but it was just right for Susie! Nevertheless, he needed to incorporate coaming to ensure she remained dry during their outing.
It was evident that Susie thoroughly enjoyed this new adventure that David had created.
Being a Golden Retriever, she was naturally exuberant, and being out on the water was yet another splendid way to entertain her. However, despite her fondness for water – she never leaped out of the kayak until they returned to the shore.
Linda Introduced Ginger To The Family
David’s spouse, Linda, brought another member to the family – a Golden Retriever named Ginger! Not wanting to exclude their new puppy from the excitement – David resolved to create another opening in his kayak to accommodate Ginger.
And, just like Susie – Ginger embraced the idea!
The Perfect Paddling Trio
The trio would venture out on the water collectively, relishing their delightful escapades in the kayak. Both Susie and Ginger proved to be exceptional companions. They were both obedient and well-trained, which is why David never encountered issues preventing them from jumping into the water.
“They settle down and off we go. When we reach the shore, they’ll remain seated until I permit them to get out,” David shared.
Susie And Ginger’s Memory Endures Eternally
Regrettably, both Susie and Ginger departed after years spent in David and Linda’s household.
They experienced a life rich in adventures and marvelous times, and though nothing can fill the void of loss in their owners’ hearts – both David and Linda find comfort in knowing that their pets were deeply loved in this world.
Nevertheless, the kayaking tradition continues in the Bahnson residence, as the couple adopted another puppy – Piper. He is also a Golden Retriever who adores exploring the water and creating lifelong memories with his dedicated owners in Vermont.
