Josie’s Narrative
Josie was discovered on the roadside in Alabama, alongside her furry friend, Roger. Following a vet assessment, it was revealed that Josie had suffered significant head trauma, which led to her blindness.
The initial belief was that Josie had been struck by a vehicle, but the peculiar part was – she had no other injuries. This enigmatic girl was rehabilitated by Alabama rescuers and later became part of the Brown Dog Coalition in Massachusetts.
Then, heartbreak struck!
Josie was taken in by Colleen McCarthy, a veterinarian, who fostered her. During her recovery phase, Colleen uncovered the actual reason behind her blindness! It emerged that Josie hadn’t been struck by a car but was shot in the face.
According to BDC, pellets remained lodged in her skull, cheeks, and ears, but they do not need to be removed at this point.
“After Josie joined her Massachusetts foster mother, @bugsybuttonbellisima, we found out that Josie had been shot in the face. Pellets remain in her head, cheeks, and ears, but as long as they’re not causing her discomfort, they don’t need removal,” shared the BDC team on Instagram.
Defying All Adversities
Never could Colleen have dreamed of how delightful of a dog Josie would turn out to be. She adapted to her new home in Massachusetts almost instantly, demonstrating that she required no special adjustments.
“In spite of her tragic background, Josie has somehow maintained her sweet and playful innocence. Her presence deeply impacts the hearts of everyone she encounters,” reported BDC.
Instead, Josie began to display her extraordinary spirit and intelligence! She behaved as if she wasn’t blind at all, convincing those who met her for the first time that she had her sight.
She possesses an amazing sense of direction. Within a few months, Josie became familiar with her surroundings and even learned to use communication buttons.
