A Gradual Recovery
When Tiana was initially rescued by Pennsylvania SPCA, she was utterly frightened of everyone she encountered.
Her owner was exceedingly abusive and neglectful towards her, resulting in immense anguish.
The rescuers were uncertain whether she would ever recuperate, yet they were prepared to exert their utmost effort to assist her in healing gradually.
Even after being brought to a secure environment by her saviors, she would almost never exit her kennel, which was heartbreaking and indicated just how frightened she was constantly.
Maddie Bernstein conveyed to The Dodo: “She would huddle in her kennel with her head lowered, ears pinned back, and a crouched body posture upon approach. She would tremble throughout her body and burrow in the rear of her kennel.”
They explored various techniques to see if she would respond. One method was trying to entice Tiana out with treats, while the other involved walking other dogs near her kennel.
Nevertheless, regardless of their attempts, everything seemed in vain. She wasn’t going to budge, so the rescuers at Pennsylvania SPCA needed to think outside the box.

Among all the concepts they considered, one stood out. Bernstein remarked: “What ultimately worked is one of our staff members simply picked her up and carried her out to a play area.”
Just as this transpired, she relaxed almost instantly. Everyone was astonished by this because they hadn’t anticipated it to be so straightforward.
Tiana began to play with one of the staff, appearing to relish the experience for the first time in ages.
Now aware of what was effective, they continued to support her with each day that passed, and she was showing notable improvement.
They always proceeded gently with Tiana, as they didn’t wish to alarm or distress her with anything. She had endured so much and didn’t require any additional challenges.
After some time, it became clear to everyone at SPCA that she was merely a very affectionate dog who longed for a normal existence.
Bernstein stated: “She’s genuinely just a sweetheart. She enjoys snuggling and being petted, and once she feels truly secure, she performs zoomies in the play area and frolics around like a puppy.”
The rescuers are exerting their utmost efforts to aid Tiana in finding a permanent home. She would certainly require a tranquil environment where she could acclimate at her own speed.
In the meantime, she is thrilled to be with her extraordinary rescuers who are savoring every moment with her and providing her with all that she requires.
