While an officer from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office in Washington State was on patrol, he observed a distressing sight.
A homeless, white canine that was traversing the street was unfortunately struck by a vehicle.
Rescue Mission
The frightened, hurt dog mustered all her energy and fled, searching for shelter in an open concrete pipe situated near the road where the unfortunate incident occurred.
Feeling deeply worried for the little dog, the officer quickly approached the pup’s hiding spot, wishing to offer assistance.
Upon arrival, he knelt down and began peering into the concrete structure, searching for the wounded dog.
Before long, he met the gaze of her sorrowful, bright eyes, looking directly at him.
Not wanting to abandon her, the officer gently spoke to the pup, attempting to coax her outside.
Fortunately, the pup responded to the compassionate deputy and limped her way out. She was then carefully lifted and taken to the veterinarian.
At The Vet
Upon her arrival at the veterinary clinic, she was checked for a microchip.
However, with none detected, indicating that the dog had no prior owner, she regrettably became a candidate for euthanasia.
Nevertheless, the kind personnel at the People for Animal Care & Kindness, based in Gig Harbor, Washington State, were not going to permit it.
They generously offered to take care of all the pup’s urgent surgical costs, ensuring the little canine survived.
Transferred to Sumner Veterinary Hospital, the dog, now named Piper, commenced her journey to recovery.
“I felt so heartbroken to see this lovely dog,” stated Nichol Phillips, the marketing manager for Sumner Veterinary Hospital.
Receiving the urgent and well-deserved attention she required, Piper finally felt genuinely secure.
It truly pains me to think that she found safety in a buried culvert. We are immensely thankful to the PCSD deputy who removed his gear and crawled into the pipe to rescue her.
Thanks to her successful surgery, Piper had the fortune of locating a caring foster home, aiding her in regaining her strength, feeling better than ever, and emerging from her shell.
She appeared to relish her car rides and seemed to enjoy the company of other canines.
I’m confident that after some time, Piper will fully recuperate and discover a loving forever home, leaving behind her painful past and embracing her new, joyous life.
