Encountering an abandoned puppy is always sorrowful, let alone finding an entire litter!
Countless vulnerable puppies are roaming around, struggling to survive after being discarded by negligent owners, and without support, their survival odds are quite low.
One such tale originates from Alabama, where a man stumbled upon six furry infants in dire need of immediate assistance. Orphaned, terrified, and entirely covered in severe mange, the litter was left in the woods, against overwhelming odds.
A Litter In Urgent Need Of Assistance
A compassionate man was on his routine journey when he noticed these six little furballs in the forest. At that moment, he couldn’t even discern what these babies were, as their skin appeared exceptionally pink, making them hardly recognizable as dogs.
Without the mother in sight, the pups required assistance, prompting the man to take swift action! He transported them to the nearby shelter in Sylacauga, Alabama, where the staff ensured they received the essential care.
However, these puppies needed more than standard dog care, as their condition was quite dire, and the shelter lacked resources to offer them comprehensive medical treatment.
Challenging To Identify
Jaquie Cobb, from Second City Canine Rescue, located in Illinois, saw the shelter’s appeal for assistance, and they acted promptly.
“They were abandoned in the woods too early to be separated from their mother,” SCCR stated.
The team couldn’t determine their exact breed at that moment, but they were certain the puppies belonged to a smaller breed.
Weighing no more than 5 pounds upon arrival, the team assumed they were all Cocker Spaniels based on their appearance.
These six infants were subsequently transferred to Auburn Veterinary College, where they were treated for sarcoptic mange.
According to Nicole Zaguroli from SCCR, the puppies emitted such a strong odor that they had to wear masks while bathing them, but after thorough care and medicated baths, they began to show signs of recovery.
With suitable nourishment, these tenacious canines improved significantly, and their curly fur started to cover their bodies. Yet, the question lingered – what breed were they?
The team speculated the puppies were Poodle mixes due to their minimal curly hair, but they were mistaken!
Surprising DNA Test Outcomes
When they finally conducted a DNA test, the results were astonishing!
All six puppies were identified as one-hundred percent Great Pyrenees, which was completely contrary to their initial assumptions.
Before long, the rapid growth of the puppies validated the tests, as each of them began gaining weight, gradually transforming into adorable white giants!
The puppies were divided between two foster families who agreed to offer them temporary residences, and they soon began learning fundamental puppy behavior and social skills.
In just a few brief months, these pups evolved into lively, positive dogs ready to meet their forever families… and it happened before long!
All of them found forever homes, where they welcomed their new families with open hearts!
Currently, the pups are steadily approaching their anticipated 100-pound weight, but one thing remains certain – they will always be the sweetest, most playful lovebugs at heart!
