Have you ever pondered why dogs are referred to as ‘man’s best companion’?
This heartwarming tale about an incredibly intelligent and devoted dog named Peanut will provide you with all the insights.
Peanut is a two-year-old Great Dane who has spent the majority of his life at a shelter in Albuquerque, awaiting that special person who will adore and treasure him.
So, when Peanut’s new father arrived at the shelter to finally bring him home, this charming pup vowed to safeguard and love his dad unconditionally. That’s precisely what he accomplished.
Peanut Saves The Day
Peanut’s new owner, Andrew Budek-Schmuisser, has been unwell, and due to his condition, he frequently loses his stability, which poses a risk to him.
A friend proposed that Andrew adopt a large dog who could always be there for him and assist him when necessary.
Without hesitation, Andrew went to the Albuquerque Animal Welfare Department and adopted an adorable Great Dane named Peanut on March 9, 2024.
He could never have imagined that only a day following the adoption, that same dog would save his life.
Peanut, the savior of this narrative, had been at his new residence for merely 24 hours when he needed to spring into action and assist his owner.
Andrew unexpectedly lost his balance and collapsed, striking his head during the fall. He was unable to move or breathe. The dreadful incident occurred – Andrew fell in such a way that his windpipe became constricted.
Quick-thinking Peanut instantly sprang into action.
“Then I felt Peanut come behind me. He cleared my airway by straightening my head and then got behind me and gradually pushed me into a sitting position,” Andrew recounted to KRQE.
This was crucial for preserving Andrew’s life, and it appears that Peanut comprehended precisely what he needed to do at that critical moment.
An Unbreakable Bond
Since the incident, Peanut has remained by Andrew’s side, and I am entirely certain that he will safeguard him at all times.
Andrew is profoundly thankful for having such a wonderful dog.
“I mean I love the dog with all my heart. He saved my life. There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for him at this point,” Andrew expressed. “I probably wouldn’t buy him a Ferrari ‘cause I don’t think he can drive one,” he even humorously added.
If it weren’t for this magnificent dog, Andrew likely wouldn’t be alive today. These animals provide us companionship, yet they are far more than that – they are faithful guardians and lifesavers in our most challenging moments.
This moving narrative serves as authentic evidence of why dogs are ‘man’s best companion’. If you are in a position to rescue one, please do, as just like in this tale, that dog could very well end up saving your life – both literally and figuratively.
According to Andrew, he plans to adopt even more dogs when the occasion arises. I hope that Peanut will enjoy many more years in his forever home, ideally with fewer mishaps.
