Upon receiving a notification about a dog that had been irresponsibly abandoned in a park near railway tracks, a rescuer from Philadelphia, Nina Love, realized there was no time to lose.
She swiftly gathered all necessary items and met up with a friend and fellow rescuer who was nearby.
Rescue Mission
Upon their arrival at the site, they immediately noticed the dog, yet capturing her proved to be a challenging endeavor.
“I trailed her for 3 miles along the train tracks, my adrenaline surging. I was aware the train would be arriving shortly as it had just passed before she dashed onto the tracks, and trains operate every 10 to 15 minutes,” Nina recounted.
Nina recognized that her safety was at risk, but she was undeterred. Looking into the dog’s eyes made her realize that the effort would be worthwhile.
I was trembling with fear, yet the desire to rescue her was strong because when I gazed into her eyes, I could see she was pleading for assistance. She was merely frightened, so I maintained my distance and exercised patience.
Fortunately, Nina’s companion had the clever notion of bringing her own dog, Teddy. When the abandoned pup spotted Teddy alongside the humans, she experienced a wave of comfort and recognized that she, too, could place her trust in them.
We crouched down, and my friend spoke to her while Teddy approached. She was hesitant, but my friend held her until I was able to come closer and leash her.
While the rescue team was still on the tracks, they heard a train getting nearer. They carefully seized the anxious dog and hastily made their way to safety.
Moments after [we secured the dog], the train arrived, and our adrenaline levels were so high that we didn’t even notice the train horn.
Nina documented the entire rescue, allowing us to share in a fragment of that adrenaline rush.
Earlier Rescues
Regrettably, this was not Nina’s first arduous rescue.
Throughout her journey as a rescuer aiding dogs across Philadelphia and beyond, Nina has liberated numerous animals from dire living situations.
She is also an advocate, responding to calls and sharing about the harsh circumstances that strays endure daily.
I aim to inform individuals that it’s perfectly fine to adore animals. We all inhabit this planet and should learn to coexist harmoniously.
Though the feedback to Nina’s advocacy isn’t always favorable, she remains steadfast in her role as a hero.
I’ve encountered numerous difficulties as an African American and have [faced] racial threats because of my involvement in this field. However, I stay resilient for them since they rely on us.
Final Word
Nina continues her efforts to locate a foster home for the adorable little pup she rescued from the train tracks.
She is convinced that a compassionate home will assist this dog in regaining her faith in humanity and demonstrate that there are always benevolent individuals in the world.
