They frequently state that a dog is humankind’s closest companion, yet only a handful of individuals truly have evidence of it. A touching narrative originating from New Jersey will not only seize your heart but also demonstrate how dogs are indeed humankind’s closest allies.
Sadie, a stunning German Shepherd, along with her owner, Brian Myers, exemplifies unwavering companionship, canine devotion, and affection that serves as an inspiration for us all.
Sadie To The Rescue
When Brian Myers adopted Sadie, he could never have foreseen that she would be the one to rescue him. In January 2021, as he was getting out of bed, Brian unexpectedly collapsed. This resident of New Jersey experienced a stroke, rendering him incapable of movement on the floor of his house.
“I had tried four or five times to get up, but I couldn’t. I just kept crashing down again.”, Brian recalls, sharing the events of that disastrous day.
Sadie, a 6-year-old German Shepherd, rushed to his side. “She realized I was in distress and was extremely worried about what was occurring with me,” Myers stated. “While I lay there on the floor, she was licking my face and attempting to keep me awake, looking after me.”
Noticing her distress, Myers attempted to reach out and pet her to soothe her. In that moment, he realized that Sadie might be able to assist him. As soon as he took hold of her collar, Sadie understood what was required.
She pulled him across the room to where his cellphone was so he could call for assistance. Sadie sensed that something was amiss and that she had to take action.
“I could have laid there for days before anyone noticed I was gone,” Myers admits, acknowledging that Sadie indeed spared his life.
Returning The Favor
Sadie rescued Brian, yet it was he who initially provided her a fresh beginning. Her previous owners relinquished Sadie to the shelter (Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge) when they relocated.
Her shelter biography indicated:
“As is typical of her breed, she is devoted and affectionate with her chosen companions.”
The shelter noted that she appeared confused and seemingly lost upon her rescue. She is a faithful dog but also quite protective and anxious around unfamiliar individuals, which complicated her adoption process slightly.
And then came Brian. He felt an immediate bond with Sadie and made the decision to adopt her.
“I managed to work through the challenges she faced, and was dedicated to providing her the home and affection she rightfully deserved. It was the best choice I could have made because she is incredibly loving and my closest companion. She has become extremely attached to me, and I to her.”
Hearing this man speak of his closest companion, his dog, brings tears to my eyes. You can sense that he cares for this dog more than anything else. I’m delighted that they have discovered each other. He saved her, and she returned the favor by saving him.
During Myers’s hospitalization and rehabilitation, all he could think about was his lovely Sadie. Their reunion overflowed with immense emotion, embraces, kisses, and a vow of many treats ahead.
No one could remain indifferent while witnessing these two closest companions finally come together and experience such joy in seeing each other. “I vow to give her the finest life possible, and will forever remember her loyalty and bravery during that frightening night,” Myers stated, embracing his furry companion.
Once a stray from Ramapo Bergen Animal Refuge, now a treasured friend, Sadie was eager to return to her forever home in New Jersey alongside Myers.
It’s the image that circled the globe, capturing countless hearts. Their tale of hope and resilience is both beautiful and motivational. It teaches us that dogs are indeed humankind’s best companions, present for us when no one else is.
I will conclude this article with some wise words from Brian Myers: “If you have space in your home and love in your heart, please rescue one of these animals. You will receive back tenfold the love you offer them.”
