“Two companions are never apart, perhaps in distance but never in spirit.”
Indeed, these two lost canines demonstrated that they could never be separated.
Back on the streets, where life is ruff and surprises lurk at every corner, the only thing these two dogs possessed was each other.
They were situated on a street corner, evidently anticipating something…
… Or someone.
The black and white canines sensed it from the outset:
They could depend solely on each other.
As the community grew concerned about the two dogs lingering in their area, clearly caught in some trouble, they recognized that action needed to be taken swiftly.
For five days, the kind-hearted residents of that street provided food and water, yet the unfortunate pups remained by one another’s side.
All until a woman arrived…
You’re Not Departing Without Me
Suzette Hall, the founder of the non-profit rescue group, Logan’s Legacy, established in memory of her late son, Logan, is an animal advocate like no other.
When life struck her hard and took away her beloved child, Suzette opted to devote her existence to rescuing those in dire need: abandoned, lost, and forsaken dogs.
Since the organization’s inception, Suzette has served as an inspiration. She goes to great lengths in her mission to save dogs, even going so far as to sleep in her vehicle at times.
No dog is ever left behind.
And she certainly wasn’t going to abandon the two pups remaining together on that street corner!
“The neighbors informed me that they would literally lay on top of each other at night to rest,” Suzette recounted.
She felt deep down that her cherished Logan was urging her to rescue those unfortunate beings.
Though Suzette suspected that the canines would still be there after a few days, she was pleasantly astonished when she arrived. She understood that those pups would be saved within a few hours of diligent effort.
Employing tasty treats as bait, Hall swiftly captured one of the pups in a humane trap.
However, securing her best friend wasn’t straightforward.
Both dogs were excessively terrified to fully trust humans, yet still, the first dog was too famished to resist his instincts.
Two hours following the capture of the first dog, the other finally relented. Hall set him in a crate, and then placed that crate in a humane trap. The first pup drew her best friend into the trap simply because they were not ready to part ways in any manner.
Hall attempted to transport the pups in her vehicle in two separate crates, but soon realized that this approach was unfeasible.
“They were trying to reach one another,” Hall remarked. “I could just sense that they required each other.”
The only logical solution was to remove the pups from their crates and allow them to be together.
“You can’t even fathom the wagging of their tails when I was releasing them,” Hall expressed. “They couldn’t get to each other fast enough.”
The two pups were given the names Pasta and Pepsi. It was evident to Suzette that this pair must never be divided again. The origins of the pups remain a mystery. Perhaps they belonged to the same household? Maybe they were from the same neighborhood?
Or, perhaps they crossed paths and believed it was destiny that united them.
In their most challenging times, Pepsi and Pasta solely had one another for comfort. And, that is a truth that would persist, despite their departure from the street corner they were found on.
Since both had been diagnosed with certain health issues, Pepsi and Pasta were assigned to stay at the veterinary clinic until they recovered. Following their rehabilitation, they would be moved to foster care, and eventually, adoption.
Suzette was adamant that Pepsi and Pasta must not be separated under any circumstances. They MUST be adopted together; otherwise, their little hearts would break into fragments.
Even with some discouraging statistics, California is still the state with the highest pet rescues. Pepsi and Pasta were incredibly fortunate to be discovered by Suzette Hall. Without this courageous woman, those unfortunate pups would still be waiting on that street corner for their family to return.
I hope this account serves as a powerful reminder that you should NEVER contemplate abandoning your pet. Rather, emulate Suzette’s example. She embodies the kind of person everyone should admire.
