Original Good Boy, abbreviated as OGB, was an eight-year-old canine who was relinquished to the Humane Rescue Alliance in Washington, DC, prior to being moved to St Hubert’s Animal Welfare Center in New Jersey.

He spent his days at the New Jersey shelter, wishing that a caring human would invite him into a warm home. Regrettably, time elapsed, and no one noticed this adorable boy.

OGB began to lose faith, but then everything shifted when he encountered her!

An Intriguing Pup

When a 70-year-old lady named Susan Wright came to the New Jersey shelter just before Christmas, she had no intention of falling for a senior pup.

“We were browsing around admiring the fur babies when I observed one dog turning his back to the entrance, ignoring all efforts to interact with him,” Wright informed Newsweek.

Wright also mentioned that, at first, she didn’t particularly find OGB to be ‘adorable’ as he exhibited the visage of a significantly serious dog possessing “a square head like a bulldog and a sturdy, muscular physique resembling a terrier or pit bull.”

Nevertheless, when she learned he had spent so many days in the shelter and had truly lost hope, Wright’s heart broke utterly.

OGB’s prior owner, who bestowed this distinctive name upon him, cherished this lovely pup immensely. However, due to unforeseen situations, he was compelled to hand him over to the shelter.

Once the shelter personnel encountered this remarkable boy, they recognized they were going to have a delightful time with him.

“He could never get enough affection, belly rubs, and pets. And when he becomes really joyful, he performs a charming little ‘happy dance’,” St Hubert’s staff member Diane Ashton relayed to Newsweek.

Ashton elaborated that in comparison to the other dogs at the shelter, OGB was more tranquil and considerably more reserved in his kennel, which could be the reason why he didn’t capture the attention of adopters initially.

Yet, when Wright encountered OGB, she resolved to take him on short outings that involved exploring the neighborhood, enjoying time at the park, and indulging in puppacinos!

“Our beginning was a little rough as I was clueless about how to walk a dog, especially a robust one. OGB wouldn’t glance at me or heed my commands. I noticed he didn’t ‘acknowledge’ women, while he was notably attentive to men, especially those driving large SUVs or trucks. He also didn’t react to children,” Wright explained.

she chose to enlist a trainer to assist them in developing a better acquaintance.

This marvelous strategy worked wonders, helping to cultivate a profound connection between them.

“When my daughters learned about my plan, they wished to join us on a walk with OGB. They fell for him immediately and thought he was quite handsome. It felt somewhat like introducing a date to them,” Wright remarked.

A New Chapter in Life

One day, Wright got word that someone expressed interest in adopting OGB. In that moment, she realized she could not bear to say farewell to this sweet boy.

“I had made a commitment not to leave him until he found a home. While with me, he would always reside in a good environment. If I were to describe my ideal dog, he probably wouldn’t resemble OGB, nor would he likely be of an older age. However, I probably wouldn’t have considered the qualities that make OGB a delightful companion who is (almost) always well-behaved,” she expressed.

OGB, who now goes by Ogee, is finally embraced into a loving family.

He quickly adapted to his new surroundings and even began to showcase his affectionate and gentle demeanor.

Wright recounted an occasion when, as her daughter was walking him, they encountered a little boy who had fallen off his bicycle and hurt his wrist.

When Wright’s daughter contacted the boy’s mother, Ogee laid down between her legs, allowing the boy to stroke him while gently licking his injured wrist.

“I don’t know if every dog would do that, but we believe it makes Ogee incredibly special,” Wright stated.

It is so heartening to witness the immense difference a forever home can have in a pup’s existence.

Ogee has evolved from a withdrawn, sorrowful pup into a senior dog with youthful vigor.

He thoroughly enjoys spending his days with his new family, showering them with affection and devotion every moment!
